Description Mickey and Oswald were prepared to face the Underworld together for all eternity, but the bonds with their family are so strong, it set them free!

Yen Sid DID promise in he'd look after Mickey as his master and teacher since Walt's death, after all. And he's always been the caretaker of Oswald's Wasteland in the Epic Mickey games.

Wow, first saving him from drowing, now saving him and his older half brother from the depths of Hades...Mickey sure owes Yen Sid ALOT. XD

XP Considering all the damage Mickey's done to Yen Sid's workshop, a LOT doesn't begin to cover it!

He has ways of getting past them. He IS Walt's animated altar ego, after all. ^^

Wow that old geezer has some timing! I want whatever christal orb he's using!

Euhm..I do hope Yen Sid has their bodies on stand-by for those souls to dive in. Can't do much if they stay ghosts and all. But I'm sure you've worked it out already somewhere in the next few pages.

A slight inconsistency in the 5th and 6th panels. Yen Sid kinda went a whole lot shorter between the two and the portal stayed the same hight. But other then that the visuals are still very clear on what's going on.
You're also spot on with the 'pal' bit in the second panel. I know some might have chosen the word 'brother' but I also happend to have played Epic Mickey: Power of illusion. Awesome game by the way.
In there Oswald calls Mickey 'pal' as well. So either they are on a 'not quite brothers, but on a friend level.' or one of the two hates being called brother. The last one could be the case, I personally tend to go with the first one though.
Who knows how much time passed between the first and second game. It takes time for a relationship between any characters to come to a certain level.

To be honest, that's the vibe I'm getting with these two from this comic. That they act like good friends and could possible still be working on their releationship as brothers. It's like you've explained, Oswald is trying his best to be a good big brother in this story and now that I know your reasoning of making the characters act the way they do, the reaction in the first couple of panels, makes a lot more sense and basicly comes over as an heartwarming ending to the interaction between the two.
Again I feel like a broken record. Oi, must be the age or something.

Oh, and another note, Yen Sid is "shorter" in the 6th panel because he's kneeling. XP

Oh, that's why his shoe suddenly disapeared. I had a suspicion but wasn't sure, since the pose doesn't differ all that much.
Thanks for clearing that up.

As long as the "other side" still owns their souls, they can't ever get their bodies back. But Yen Sid will fix that... >: 3

I can imagine after +80 years of resentment and distancing themselves from each other, rekindling a brotherly relationship isn't something that happens overnight. My heart is in the right place with how to portray the characters, but I just could've explained it better.

Oh I sense another twist coming up.

Even when I didn't know about your reasoning for letting the characters act the way they do, I already knew which way you where trying to go with this and on which points you wanted to focus.
I know your heart is in the right place. It shows in the comic as you really try to have Mick and Os have an emotional bonding with each other and focus the story on that for more pages then the villians have taking over the park.

As long as you keep this up in the future and aren't afraid to take a little risk with some heavier dialogue or scenes every story you'll write will turn out better then the last one. You'll see.

Just whenever something good happens something bad usually happens too (like he could be tricking them... I know he isn't but that's an example) so I'm naturally suspicious of good luck in storylines.

Remember in the prologue, when Yen Sid promised he'd watch over Mickey since the day Walt died? Yen Sid's keeping that promise, especially when his world is in such danger.

It's strange, you know; even though we've only ever seen Yen Sid do a few magic tricks and clean out a castle full of water almost instantly, us fans have always had the impression that he was incredibly powerful.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RaltheCommentator In reply to NHarmonik [2013-01-07 04:55:31 +0000 UTC]

Well, he's Walt's animated altar ego, essentially the toon that knows the business of magic more than any other toon. AND he plays a big role in Kingdom Hearts.
