Description Today's work; a little Boston Terrier in watercolour, 5" by 7". My eyes still hurt from working on the big oil of the ballerina, so I thought I'd have a go at something different today.

Wow! I don't think I've ever seen a brindled Boston - I bet it's a really cool look! I had a little Boston growing up - solid black except for the nose.

Oh, I'm so sorry! I had a Boston growing up, and I just assumed she'd always be there; I was really heartbroken when she died. Thank you for the kind comment.

Cute!! I used to have one of these. Also, one of my dogs got into a little scuffle with a Boston today, nothing serious. Very well painted, though!

I love the expression, too! He looks...almost distinguished: like a proper British gentleman! Formal portrait, indeed! I love the blend of the black into the white fur--that can't be easy!--and the light is just lovely!

They really are kind of little. We had one when i was a kid, and she was just the greatest little pooch. They make great pets for those of us who are pretty sedentary.

I thought about a Boston Terrier when I was looking into dog breeds (before going with a poodle)....the poodle won over- energetic, great for agility apparently....and as I've found out, very intelligent

I think I need to write a Journal entry about a poodle we rescued for someone. I was very pleasantly surprised by him. The only thing that has ever really bothered me about poodles is the silly show-cuts that make them look so ridiculous. They're really very smart, agile and friendly dogs.

Surely your best yet. This really has a lot of character and I can fell the texture/cold nose in this.

Wow! Thanks very much! I think it helps me paint if I've met the dog and taken the reference photos myself. I tried to give the texture a little something extra here; I'm really glad you like it!

Oh i do like it - I think it is excellent - very well done. It must be great to have that reputation where you do get a constant stream of subject matter being brought to you all the time.

The work usually comes in waves, but I've been pretty lucky; I always have commissioned work to do, so I can't complain. Getting a reputation as a pet artist was an accident, but I certainly don't mind - I enjoy the subject.

Thanks very much! Just negative space with a hint of shadow; I think that's the trick - to just barely have any paint in the water on the white fur spots. I really appreciate it!

Sorry you're not a Boston fan. We had one when I was little, so i have a special place in my heart for them. For being such short-haired pups, they certainly shed a lot. Pretty mild-mannered, though.
