Oh! I don't know if you got my reply on the kanji. In Japanese, as in Chinese, a lot of the kanji symbols have a variety of meanings depending on how they're used. For example, the Chinese character for "Peace" in Chinese can also be used to represent "smooth"...the same thing works in the Japanese usage.

Well, there are a lot of characters that represent certain words, especially simple words - the nuances of meaning are a little different for each of the characters (in English, we use one word to represent a variety of things, and that's what makes translation so difficult). But the symbol I've used for "Peace" [link] is also translatable as "smooth textured", I assure you. I got that straight from a real live Chinese person.

In Japanese, your "rice" kanji also appears in the set of kanji representing "USA".

I understand that one character could mean many different things sometimes, but our discussion is about..."guest" and I'm sure (even though I have not checked with my Chinese teacher) that that particular character does not mean "guest". Look here [link] And by the way, that character is also chinese word for "guest"

But remember - I'm not using "Chinese" - this is Japanese. Anyway, I've gone back and found my source for guest and compared it to other Japanese characters representing similar items (client, visitor, customer), and I think you may have me. The website may have mistakenly labeled the kanji because the others are derived from a different main character. I'll do a little more checking before I start throwing work away.
On the other hand, what's so "ricey" about USA? εη±³ or εη±³ are common translations...

Thanks very much! The lady who requested this one said that it's a fox terrier "that looks a lot like a Jack Russel" - same colouring as a smooth coat Jack and everything, so I think he could pass as a JRT without too much trouble.

Isn't it strange? I have a friend who collects scrap metal to sell, and he's moaning because scrap copper and lead aren't commanding high prices anymore. Hmm... sounds like the leading and copper-foil people are making a little extra profit!

Here they jack up gaz price at the first bad news on TV,
( gaz price is bad in QuΓ©bec, our province have an extra taxe that was install some 20 years ago to help repair our roads, taxes is still on and our roads looks like hell...go figure )
Friday morning my boyfriend told me to go fuel my car, cause with the nice weather annonced for the week-end , they would shure higher the price.
Within an hour, buy the time I got to the pump, the gaz was 3 cents more, by friday supper time, it was 8 cents more.
Yope...they are not running out of excuses to make millions in profit on us
Better not think about the injustice this big corporations impose on us.
Just sad that the governement does nothing to stop them
