This rather unusual work was a commission, and it's also the subject of a new contest I'll be announcing in my Journal.This young man walked into my gallery and asked, "You know the painting of dogs playing poker?" When I answered in then affirmative, he handed me a stack of photographs and asked that I paint his wife's pets in that style. I used an old Dogs Playing Poker as a model, but changed it rather substantially. It's supposed to have an "almost but not quite" cartoony look to it.
It's acrylic on canvas, 13" by 19" (a bit too small for comfort on some of the details).

Thanks! The fellow who commissioned this one brought me a stack of photos of his wife's pets, so I guess they have one cat living in a house full of dogs! Must be awfully confusing for the cat!

Well, thank you very much! It wasn't particularly difficult; it was just so full of little details that it took a long time to include everything. Kind of a funny little painting; it's nice to do something goffy for a change!

Hehehe... Yeah, maybe. But it's a bit screwed up, because I've always thought that dogs are honest, and that cats are sneaky bastards. So if I would've painted this, the cat would've been cheating, the dogs would've been honest and good players, but won anyway ^^ Do I have to mention that I prefer dogs?
