Description

Since I’ve gained more experience with Ultraman, I thought I’d try making a new Ultraman character. His name is a portmanteau of “Tri” (Torai (トライ) ), in reference to his three Types, and “Splice” (Supuraisu (スプライス)), from his complete merging of an Ultra and human.

Ultraman Trice (ウルトラマン トライス)
Human Form: Shinrai Santo
Home World: Land of Light
Height: 50m

Bio
Not long after the Plasma Spark transformed the people of the Land of Light into Ultras, some scientists experimented to see if additional power from the Spark could further strengthen them. So they extracted a small portion of light energy from the Plasma Spark and created the Maxcium Blade. Unfortunately, tests showed that extended use of the Blade could result in extensive damage to any one Ultra who wields it. After Belial attempted to take the power of the Plasma Spark for himself but was corrupted and then exiled from the Land of Light, it was decided that all experiments regarding the Plasma Spark be terminated immediately. The scientists entrusted the disposal of the Maxcium Blade to a young Ultra Warrior named Delta; the plan was to dump the Blade into a distant black hole, where it would be crushed by the intense gravity. However, on the way to the black hole, Delta was ambushed by an alien bandit and his kaiju muscle. Their fight resonated with the Maxcium Blade, tearing a hole in space-time; pulling them all through and dropping them on an alternate Earth in the ancient past. Delta was outmatched by the kaiju; its strength bolstered by the alien’s direction, until a wandering human warrior caught sight of the battle and began to fight against the alien. Still outclassed by the kaiju’s strength, Delta fell to his last resort; he activated the Maxcium Blade and ran the kaiju through. Delta then de-activated the Blade to seal it and the kaiju away, but not before the kaiju grievously injured the Ultra. The alien was briefly distracted by the loss of his partner, allowing the warrior to injure the alien, who then retaliated by critically wounding the warrior before escaping back to the stars.

Both wounded, Delta and the warrior’s spirits met; each wanted to save the other, so they agreed to let the Ultra inhabit the warrior’s body so they could both survive. However, when the merge was complete, who was left found that they were neither Delta nor the warrior. The stranger had the body of the warrior, the powers of the Ultra, and the spirit and memories of both. After years of becoming accustomed to their new abilities, the stranger transformed into his Ultra form, finding that it had also changed, and returned to the Land of Light. The new Ultra, now going by the name Trice, explained to his seniors what had happened before undergoing training again, finding that the merger had given him the ability to Type Change. Once his training was completed, Trice was tasked with returning to the Earth he had come from to ensure the Maxcium Blade does not fall into the wrong hands. Trice returned to Earth, but found that not only had the petrified kaiju and Maxcium Blade become lost with the Earth’s changes, but that the humans had just started experiencing the emergence of kaiju species. So Trice took human form under the name Shinrai Santo to walk among the people, and when needed, fight alongside the Global Defense Forces as Ultraman Trice.

Months after his return, Trice discovered that the Earth had formed around the sealed kaiju and Maxcium Blade, creating a mountain. When scientists uncovered the petrified kaiju and Blade, it attracted the alien bandit, who managed to revive his kaiju partner. Trice tried to fight against the kaiju, but even with his Type Change ability, he was no match against it and the alien. After some consideration, Trice unlocked the Maxcium Blade; this time the power of the Blade transformed Trice into Max Mode and defeated both the kaiju and alien. Trice then helped to defend Earth from those who would seek the power of the Maxcium Blade.

Equipment
Trice Badge- The device that allows Trice to change from his human form into his Ultra form, in any of his Types.
Maxcium Blade- An artifact of the Land of Light; a sword imbued with a portion of energy from the Plasma Spark. It was Delta’s use of it thousands of years ago that partially corrupted him, resulting in his consciousness merging with that of the human warrior. Since the merger and obtaining his Type Change ability as Trice, he is able to use the Maxcium Blade without any ill effects. As Santo, he uses a smaller version of the Maxcium Blade which is also used to change Trice into Max Mode. Pressing the front trigger on the handle initiates the transformation or an ability change, and pressing the back trigger opens the guards and activates a finisher.

Transformation
Regular- Santo turns the dial on the Trice Badge so the respective light of one of his Types is visible (violet for Balance, yellow for Mighty, green for Hyper), presses a button on the side, and then raises the badge in the air.
Max Mode- Trice’s human form summons the small Maxcium Blade and then plugs the Trice Badge into the hilt before pressing the front trigger and begins the transformation.

Features
Ultra Crystal- The crystal on Trice’s forehead, it changes color with his Type Changes and grows to encompass his crest in Max Mode.
Color Timer- Trice’s Color Timer located on his chest, which flashes red when 1 minute remains of Trice’s 3-minute time limit.
Protectors- Three sturdy pieces of armor located around Trice’s Color Timer.

Original Form- Trice’s previous form and identity as Delta prior to leaving the Land of Light
-Delta Shoot- Delta’s primary attack, firing a beam from his hand in an Ultraman-style formation
Balance Type- After becoming Trice, this became his default form
-Tricium Kousen- The main attack used by Trice in his Balance Type; Trice brings his forearms into a “+” formation and launches a beam of light energy
Mighty Type- Trice’s red form focused on strength, durability, and concussive force
-Mighty Break- Trice’s main attack in Mighty Type; Trice throws a punch and launches a concussive sphere of diffused energy, impacting with the force of a meteor
Hyper Type- Trice’s blue form focused on speed, agility, and concentrated energy
-Hyper Cutter- Trice’s main attack in Hyper Type; Trice builds energy in his crests and then begins throwing a barrage of “beam sluggers” that slice apart the enemy
Max Mode- Trice’s powered-up form, with all of his abilities enhanced by the Maxcium Blade; his crest changes color when accessing the abilities & enhanced finishers of his prior Types
-Maxcium Burst- Trice runs the Blade into an enemy and channels the energy into them, destroying them from the inside out
-Max Mighty Crush- Using the strength of Mighty Type, the Blade rotates, becoming more like a club which Trice uses to bash the enemy
-Max Hyper Slash- Using the accuracy of Hyper Type, energy is concentrated along the Blade’s edge and Trice launches it at the enemy, cleaving through the toughest armors
-Max Tricium Blast- With his power at its highest, Trice brings the Blade to his right forearm in a “+” formation, firing an enhanced version of the Tricium Kousen through the Blade

Design: Ultraman Delta’s patterns were based on a civilian Ultraman. For Trice, the patterns for each Type are based on inverted patterns of select Ultras (Mighty; Seven, Taro, Leo, Xenon / Hyper; Jack, Cosmos, Max, Hikari / Max Mode; Mebius Burning Brave, Orb Orgin The First, Ginga). Becoming Trice, the silver of his body becomes darker to show his partial corruption, and returns to normal in Max Mode. His host/human form situation was inspired by Zero’s first host (Ultra in control), Orb (Host with Ultra powers), & Geed (Biological Ultra, whose human form “controls” the Ultra form).

What an interesting origin story. He's kind of Orb like in a couple of ways but you've put so many of your own ideas into this character that the similarities are barely noticable. Good job. Do you plan on making his henshin devices at some point?

Thanks. There was a plan to make a Trice Badge and full-scale Maxcium Blade to go with this image, but I settled on just showing the Ultra.

That's cool. I was just curious since, judging by the description, it seems as though you actually put a bit of thought into their designs despite not even describing them.
