Cheshire has been around for a while. He's got a couple of trainers under his belt but don't like to talk about it. All Kate knows is that he's been passed around until he eventually ended up with her.
Chess is taking things day by day. He's not expecting to stay around for long and is just waiting for Kate to replace or grow tired of him.
Despite things, he is growing on this "family". He quickly hit it off with Bandit and they'll team up to pull pranks and shenanigans on the others.
He don't mind the others much and have some respect for Yoshi. He will listen to him albeit reluctantly.

Recently, he's started to open up a bit. He'll help out when he sees an easy job, and he's started to get closer with Yoshi too. And much to his dismay, he's started to take a genuine liking to Kate. She may not be the best trainer out there, and half the time it doesn't seem like she knows what she's doing. But she makes him feel wanted and like this could really be his forever-home.

Kate was called by her family and had to leave Issho, Chess obviously followed her, but it seems he decided to stay with Marie form time to time, saying things like "Crazy kids with nasty scratches and all the blood and them touching me- HELL NO!". Kate asked Marie if she can let Chess on her team to help with training and taking on the League, which she kind of accepted. Chess reassured her that he will come when Marie needs him. So he just jumps from Kate to Marie as he pleases, which is very nice!
