In all seriousness what is even left to be said about the modern incarnation of everyone's favourite blue hedgehog? Sega and Sonic Team have clearly demonstrated they don't even know what they're doing anymore, although I take it one step further in that they just don't care. I normally like to defend this franchise from people such as Yahtzee and Egoraptor but there was just no defending Sonic Forces. Considering that the fans produced a game early that year that was 10 times better than it.
As much as I hate to say it, I think Sonic needs to go away for a while. Take a little vacation, go on hiatus, and pull a Mega Man, until people really miss the franchise or Sega get a clue as to what they're supposed to be doing. Not that that's going to happen of course, considering we got the movie coming out this year, that new racing game, and rumours of a Sonic Adventure remake on the wind.
I would love to see a remake for both Sonic Adventure 1&2, but I just don't trust Sega to do it because I don't think they care enough. Having said that I said the same thing about Capcom when it comes to the Resident Evil franchise, and yet the remake of RE2 looks absolutely amazing and everything a remake should be. Even Activision surprised us a few years back with the remake of the first 3 Crash Bandicoot games. It can be done, I'm convinced it can be done, but are Sega willing to give enough of a shit to do it right? And the answer sadly is no. I don't think they are, but you know what Sega?
Three words -Β prove me wrong.

I do agree that Sonic could use a break for a while, and that Sega should give some of their other properties another chance, even some of their older, lesser known ones.

Yeah that is basically the problem. All Sega do is use Sonic when they could make more by using all their IPs. The Yakuza Series has overtaken Sonic as Sega's top IP in my opinion.

I would say House of the Dead and Streets of Rage, but they recently got updates.
I would like to see a new Golden Axe (that's faithful to the originals) and another Clockwork Knight.

I heard from some fun facts that Sega had to make changes from adventure is due to the difficulty with the loops without a speed boost. I heard that Christan Whitehead, the programmer of Sonic Mania is working on 3D Sonic game.

That's actually a pretty good way of looking at it.
At the time, you wouldn't really bat an eye at it. But in these days, the hiphop music for Knuckles really comes off as a product of its time. Cus the 2000's was all about either hiphop or new metal. As funny as his music was, it never made sense to give an Echidna from a long lost tripe hiphop.

I'd say they should give old Sonic a rest. Granted, there has been a few good games that came out from the modern era but that's only very few and far between to the mediocrity.
(Funnily enough, I bought Sonic Unleashed on Wii at a 2nd hand shop, the other day.)

Yeah I get what you mean. I like Sonic but he needs some time to breathe. Give House of the Dead, Streets of Rage, or even Jet Set Radio more time in the spotlight.
