Day 7: "This one is for my one and only true love, Princess Peach."

Last time, we talked about naming conventions. Most of the time, I tend to call a character by the name I first knew them by. So I tend to stick with names like Dr. Robotnik, Optimus Prime, Wally, Slag, Resident Evil and Yakuza over Dr. Eggman, Convoy, Waldo, Slug, Biohazard or Like a Dragon. The main acceptions are Princess Peach and Fang the Sniper, because "Nack the Weasel" is an error in American localisation.

This brings us of course to Bowser. I prefer to call him "King Koopa" as that was he was called in the NES days and the three Dic cartoons. It's a personal preference, but 'Bowser' to me is what you call a dog, not a firece (if slightly campy) turtle demon king thing. It's a similar problem with Robotnik in Sonic 06, because it was difficult to take the game seriously when the story has a character called "EGGMAN."

Naming aside, Koopa/Bowser (pick which you like) is one of gaming's longest running villains. Well, if Mario is the face of gaming, you'll probably be remembered as such too as his eternal nemesis. Despite that, he's not exactly a good villian when compared to the likes of Robotnik, Wesker, Sigma, Cortex, Sephiroth or Kazuya Mishima. I say that because, well, he's only ever got one plan to work with: "Kidnap somebody." He could be a bit more flexible, it's all I'm saying.

Yet much like Robotnik, he tends to be the more memorable figure when compared to Mario, as he's allowed to have a quirky personality and devotion as single parent to Bowser Jr. It's actually kind of adorable and sweet watching him set a good example for his son (or would that be a bad example?) when setting parental controls on the Nintendo Switch. He truly is father of the year.

Makes you wonder if he's doing all these dastardly things just to make his son happy... Is Mario really the bad guy?

He's not exactly Jack Black, but Urskit's good enough to sing Peaches.
