The flesh torn actually looks really good, representing somewhat to me how he had gotten 39 lashes with a bone whip. But actually, my pastor told me today that the nails of the cross werent actually in his hands, they were in his wrists, for if they were in his hands, the pressure from his whole body hanging, the skin on his hands would just rip through and well, you get the point: just a random fact for ya :3

Haha, your welcome.
But yeah, i mean, why would you get nailed by your hands? Your skin and hand muscle could not support all of your weight like that. Its like simple physics or something. like gravity. Anybody hung on the cross like He was was nailed like, right inbetween the two bones in the wrist, so that it couldnt break through the skin like it would the hand. Well, thats what the Pastor says.

Well i've also heard that the hand was a more painful place to be nailed, and since the romans were into causing as much pain to their prisoners as possible, they would nail them in the hands and then use ropes to secure the arms so that they wouldn't fall.
Also, they usually used a support on the bottom of the cross, with the feet, so they they were nailed to the support, and that's where they would actually stand.
Discovery channel did a show on this once, and they said that if nails in his hands were the ONLY thing that were holding him to the cross, then yes, gravity would have ripped them out, but the mere fact that his feet were nailed to the cross too, took the pressure off of his hands to the point that he would have stayed.
But like i said, it's not really that important.

Haha, no, it really isnt important, is it?
But yeah, I was watching this movie on it, and they showed that the legs were slightly crossed and at a slight angle, so if you did happen to, say, 'rip, your hands, you wouldnt be able to stand anyway, and the way they were nailed, even if they were tied down they would have fallen, because if you were slightly slouched foreward it would put a great deal of pressure on the chest area, because your legs and feet wouldnt be holding any of it, so the victim would most likely suffocate, which would be the equivilant of the roman just sitting there watching the torture, watching whoever was on the cross suffocate to death.

And to think that He could have called 10,000 angels to destroy the world, and set him free. But instead he chose to die for me. Not because He had to, but because He wanted to.

Another great drawing! This illustrate more than other images this torture Jesus Christ went through. Reminds me of
"Passion of Christ" the movie.. Where His suffering is detailed illustrated. I`ll fave your picture for sure..

I'm really glad you like it. This was my attempt to "identify" with his suffering... something I always seem to have a problem doing.

Awesome... it's beautiful, not in the fact that it's attractive or pretty,
but in the fact that it carries such emotion behind it. And such meaning.
It really made me think... about all He went through, because He loved us..
that much. Brilliant piece. It doesn't shy away from what we need to see,
and what we don't like to think of. The club needs more artwork like this.
God bless you and your talent....Thank you for posting it. =]

Such an effective sketch because of the zooming in to the pierced hands. Well done!

You can just see the gashes in his arms. But no matter how much we try, we can never completely imagine just what kind of torcher and pain he went through. Even the Passon movie can't express it. But great reminder.

...And he was nailed through his hands to cause more torture, unlike normal crucifixian at the time, the high priests wanted him to suffer...
But to keep his hands from tearing free from the raiload spikes going through them, his arms were thoughrly bound to the cross beams, to keep his upper body on that cross of wood.
