Description Harry Potter FanArt; Severus Snape
(I usually forget to write this )

I spent too much time on the background - then I had to cover it all in snow. Depressing. Stupid me.^^
Also... is it just me or does my raven look like a penguin? It got confused with the snow.

If you want to know what it means to me:
"If you look a raven in the eye for too long it will steal your soul and fly away with it." I wish I could remember where I heard that... anyway, that was my main concept here.
(ps. I remember that I tried it. Either it doesn't work or I just didn't notice.^^ )

This is quite the beautiful piece, you most definitely did NOT spend too much time on the background, or anything else for that matter. Details are important, after all.

And that quote is from Snow White: A Tale of Terror. One of the slightly less creepy, quiet moments of the whole movie.

Maybe the raven looks like a penguin because (at least in photos) they don't usually place their wings in such a position?

I wouldn't be surprised if Snape gets acquainted with a real penguin if he ever travels near the south pole. I believe that his Inner Animal is a penguin: enduring, but ultimately warmhearted

I love this bleak, yet beautiful winterscape, and no, your raven just looks like he's trying to keep warm by puffing up I find Severus's spindly ankles very touching, and his uncomfortable - looking shoes are an interesting focal point somehow. His eyes don't seem to be fixed on the bird, but in the distance, as if he's already dismissed him and the remote possibility it could ever take his great soul.

Wow! A new Severus painting from you! With a raven (I love ravens)! It's a snow scene--those are also personal favorites of mine since they are so difficult to do. I love how this scene is telling a story--I just wish that I knew what it was. I am convinced that Severus' patronus was a raven before he changed it to a doe--it just seems fitting. He looks like he just rushed out into the cold as he certainly isn't dressed for the elements! Also, perching the bird on an old water pump is brilliant. Most artists would have gone with a tree limb or fence post. Your art always has that unexpected added touch that I love!

Not like a penguin. Like a crow wearing a cape.

I think it much more likely that Severus will steal the raven's soul.

OMG OMG OMG a Snape from you

I loooove love love his expression and the desolate blankness the snow and his single trail of footprints create. Also, I am fixated on his skinny ankles and his shoes .
You can *feel* the contact between Snape and the raven. Like he's tempting to hold it for too long.

Could it be that you heard that sentence on the tv-movie: "Snow White: A Tale of Terror"?
Because I remember something like that too...

How can I express my wonder at your snowy background?! I love that sky so much (my area is literally drowned in snow at the moment...sky really looks like that). Wonderful Severus, as usual. I like his pose very much.
I wish I could tell what's going on between them: the air in their gaze-line feels electrical...

I guess that the reason for your raven looking like a penguin is in the way its wings close down to its body...but definitely you can't mistake it for another bird!^^
You know, I came up with my own idea of portraying Snape in a snow covered land with another creature, but there's another concept behind: hope to be able to draw it soon!

Wow, Severus looks amazing! Especially his face~ The background is gorgeous - it helps makes the black subjects stand out all the better! And I really like the quote that was your inspiration!

I think the reason the crow makes you think of a penguin is the way his wings hand down - they almost give the illusion that they're more of his body, which then gives him the shape of a penguin XD But when you see that they are his wings, it goes away

A great piece, as usual

Very powerful concept. The thought would almost seem quite freeing in sense, for a bird to fly away with it. I like the frozen wasteland atmosphere and the slight hint of buildings in teh background. Nice detail work especially on the old pump metal design. The bird doesn't look like a penguin to me. Love how his pants are slightly too short and his bony ankles are showing And that glorious profile of course ^_^ Wonder what he's thinking. Seems slightly distracted and pensive.
