Eight years before the formation of Team RWBY, Salem's faction was filled with very different faces. She continued to take in children in search of, but was also in possession of a follower that had power that surpassed her own.

Hawthorne-Age Over 1,500 (Center): He is the oldest of Salem's followers and the leader of the Cerulean Syndicate. Over a thousand years ago Hawthorne came to the Witch in her domain seeking knowledge about her immortality. She tried to kill him by throwing him into a Grimm spawning pool, but he used his Semblance to take the pool into himself make him like her. An entity that desired destruction and death. His Semblance Energy Leech allows him to absorb any for of energy and utilize it any way he sees fit. Even to maintain his youth and prolong his life. He has killed several of Ozpin's incarnations and learned magic from draining his life energy. His power has since grown greater than Salem's, but his pledge of eternal servitude has kept him from rising against her.

Onex Maverick-Age 18(Left): He's the leader of Team ONES (Onyx) of Vacuo. Onex is a gorilla Faunus with ape hands for feet. He was recruited into Salem's Faction with a single purpose. To take the Beast Within from Cain Masterson and become a Beast King that the Witch could control. His Semblance Steel Shroud allows his body to produce a liquid metal covering over his skin that is nearly indestructible.

Sterling O'Donald-Age 18 (Right): He's the last member of Team ONES (Onyx). Sterling was born without skin and requires the bandages around his body to prevent the air from causing him pain. He was recruited by Hawthorne into Salem's Faction alongside Onex. His Semblance Splice allows him to change himself into a perfect genetic copy of whoever's DNA he introduces to his body.
