Description Wow this was difficult. I think I"ll let the picture speak for itself.

It is really hard to get this moment across in just a couple still scenes though. Now I'm cringing at the thought of trying to draw the scene with Bryce.

I just started watching American Horror Story, and discovered the Carina Round song, "For Everything a Reason."  The first verse goes perfectly with the scene here, I highly recommend giving it a listen for added effect if you haven't heard it.

I love your work, in my AU stories Oriana wasn't able to sleep thus she hears Howe's men outside leading her to have Oren hide. Long story short, my Cousland travels with him til they reach Redcliffe, where she leaves him with her mabari until it's safe for him to be with her again.

"He'll see a sword up close real soon." - That's the line I always remember whenever I see Oren art, it just hurts because that was echoing through my head as I found his body and even if I hadn't had much time to get to know them I was kind of looking forward to coming back from my quest and teach Oren how to use a sword and fight in a battle. This just hurts so much.

This is why the Human noble origin is so very emotionally painful. I've heard a lot of people say it was the least heartbreaking, "because you didn't really know the family and it doesn't have a lot of effect on the rest of the game". But really, what we got was enough to get emotionally attached and what happens is just horrible...
Your drawing is really spot on for the emotions I always experience when playing this part, and the broken wooden sword... It reminds me of Fergus telling his son that "he'll see a sword up close real soon", that line breaks y heart every time....

I think they did a brilliant job.  You don't get a ton of time with them, but the time you have you can tell what a solid family this is.  As far as video game families go, you might have the MOST time and dialogue out of anything I've ever played.  And the father's little pet names and his protectiveness are in there just enough to get everything across, in my opinion.   I've never seen a game take such care of it's protagonists families characters.

And little tiny Oren with his little tiny voice!  Baby!  ;___;

I don't think I cried the first time but I cry now.  I'm so emotionally attached.

They certainly did! You really feel like 'this is my family i can't let them down' and it really makes you despise arl howe for it, instead of just making you think 'oh, okay so this guy is the villain' like in most games. It's true, bioware did an amazing job here, they always do, but i feel like they went just a step farther on the ladder of amazingness here oren is so sweet! I remember the first time I played it i thought i'd really get to teach him something, and that it'd be so cute! But then it didn't happen and i was hoping that maybe I could do it the next day like, he'd be up real early and wake up my warden and yell 'auntie! Auntie! Lets go to the courtyard to play with swords!' And my warden would tell him to wait untill after breakfast and he'd be supercute and eat real fast and ugh, i really had this entire story in my head and i was wondering what would happen but then he died and it reallu broke my heart!

Nooooo I can't even handle that head canon!  He probably did that in the past and you showed him all these little baby versions of moves you know and Oriana is always irritated and worried he's going to hurt himself and Fergus is so proud and comes out and joins you and NOOOOOOO *flees crying*

This comic is fantastic. It's always neat to see this story from the perspective of a Cousland who isn't *my* Cousland, but even more than that, you really nailed the drama of this scene.

RanmaCMH In reply to mysterycycle [2014-04-24 19:56:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!  I really think that's the best part of these role playing games, is getting to experience the game a little differently from another players perspective.  I adore seeing other reactions and interpretations to the same scenes.  Though it is unusual for me to really care about another players Warden, I love the exceptions to that (Like Rooster82's Nara, I LOVE how much personality she has…. rooster82.deviantart.com/galle…  So my goal is for you guys to really love Arlana and her personality through all of this, even though she isn't your warden.  It's a fun challenge to do it without any dialogue!

I totally cruise all over Deviantart looking for great stock, and Senshi has a TON.  My problem seems to be that I always pick a pose that nobody has done. lol.  I've got tons of it on my computer though, and if I use it you can be sure that I will credit it. I am so appreciative of the stock deviants.

the cousland origin is my favourite, not just cos it's the only playthrough that i've actually been able to complete >.> but for many reasons.  this scene was one of them.  cousland loses her family and her home in just a few hours.  i just wish that there could've been an additional scene where you could've grieved or at least held some sort of brief memorial before moving to the ostargar arc.

this was simply beautiful and heart-wrenching.  i love the expression on eleanor's face.

RanmaCMH In reply to ReiKoko [2014-03-19 06:34:59 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean about wanting other scenes!  I still wish they had added brief animations to the epilogue for a more satisfying close too.  Cousland could have held a memorial then, or it could have coincided with Alistair creating the monument to Duncan (I think that was supposed to be in Highever?)  But besides that, I know they couldn't have possibly created the infinite number of scenes we can imagine and add to our characters stories.  That's why I'm drawing this!

ReiKoko In reply to RanmaCMH [2014-03-19 10:10:39 +0000 UTC]

yeah, it's not a huge complaint of mine cos i know that it would've been a bit impractical to create so many scenes, especially for characters that you only see for a brief period of time.  i can't tell you how satisfying it was for me to kill rendon howe XD
