Description

The pongids of our world is limited to but two species of orangutans that inhabit South-East Asia. However in VA it is a very different story. In the early miocene a group of apes, close relatives of gigantopithecusand sivapithecus, that lived in the forests what is home earth Himalayan China started to increasingly take to a bipedal form of walking as they travelled from montane forest to montane forest in search of food. This was the start of what became an incredibly successful lineage. These creatures spread out across Eurasia and North America and started to develop a walking gait similar to that of humans as well as a similar foot structure. These creatures also developed a much more keen sense of smell than any other ape group. It is thought that competition from these wild 'ape-men' is one of the factors that lead to the stalling of human civilisation and even the diversification of the Homo. Many often stray into our world, drawn by the smells of food and human refuse and the warmer climes through inter-dimensional 'gaps'. In very rare cases (which were probably more common in the past) small populations even arise and give rise to the legends across the world of the shaggy forest men.

Yeti (Gigantopongo mehtei)The classic apeman, Yeti's used to be found across Asia and even Western Europe but persecution from humans have fragmented the populations and pushed them deeper into the wilds, now mostly occurring in regions with large areas of montane forests such as the foothills of the Himalayas. Here they feed on bamboo, nuts and berries primarily. Yeti's are more solitary than Sasquatch, with troops being far less common. Hair colour varies but is generally lighter in tone than Sasquatch (and albino individuals have even been recorded). In the breeding season, females will make the journey across frozen glaciers and snowy mountains into secluded, forest valleys. Here, in these 'nursery valleys' they raise their young.

Hmmmm, I actually read somewhere that Sasquatch are usually about 10 feet tall while Yeti are only about 6 feet tall... I wonder what they would look like standing next to each other?...
