Description Crocodile as Totem

This was one of the first totem files I ever wrote, and then it's now one of the last pictures I've drawn. I thought this would be reaaaally hard, but... the picture just flowed out of me very easily and I'm quite happy with it; even if the colouring did take quite a long time! Lol.

Crocodile represents prehistoric wisdom, plutonian god energy, and the reconciliation of opposites. It also represents using cunning and stealth to get ahead.

I could never draw something like this.  I'm better with photoshop.

I'm awful at drawing with Photoshop, so it works out!

It's kind of like drawing on a regular sketch pad but using a tablet.

The snout almost makes it look more like an alligator?

This is based on the saltie (saltwater crocodile), not the freshwater crocodile, which has quite a different shaped snout to the freshie: www.crocodilesafari.com.au/ima…

It reminds me of the extinct fossil crocodile "Sebecus", that lived on land.

Actually, landcrocs were a significant trend in the fossil record.

I'm glad there's none running around now, however.

Wow! This is beautiful. I love it. Crocodiles are one of my favorite animals, and I feel a connection with them, too.

What is "plutonian god energy", though?

Ravenari In reply to FatCaiman [2008-10-05 03:16:21 +0000 UTC]

Plutonian god energy - gods that have a similar energy to the Roman god Pluto. Also including gods like Hades.

Wow, another reptile! Instant favorite, but not just because it\'s an herp, because of the whole thing
And you did right at coloring the mouth pale, because they have a pale peach mouth. The \"back\" of the croc on the lower right corner is especially realistic, very well shaded. It feels 3 dimensional.

Ravenari In reply to Rawksan [2008-05-26 23:59:43 +0000 UTC]

aw cheers, I had some good reference shots I think. I thought they'd be a lot darker too - their mouths remind me of the inside of frilled-neck lizard mouths, pale and pinky/yellowy.

Eyes-Of-Crystal [2008-05-26 08:24:12 +0000 UTC]

ohh... nice....but isnt the inside of its mouth suppose to be of a darker shade?
iunno, you can ignore that, i'm just saying that i noticed it...
hmm... maybe i should try a croc, it looks pretty hard >_>

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ravenari In reply to Eyes-Of-Crystal [2008-05-26 08:26:21 +0000 UTC]

i think it depends on where the croc is from; all the reference shots i used had crocs that actually had even *paler* jaws / faces, so i suppose it really depends on locality / environment and things like that as well.
