Description This is a 9" X 10" drawing. It started out as a study of the human skull and later I went back and detailed it and added other bones and the tree. Both are skeletons: the trunk and branches are the skeleton of a tree and, of course, the bones are from the skeleton of a human.

Bones and skulls fascinate me. They are the structure of an otherwise fluid-like being that, without that structure, would be a lump of flesh and muscle and organs. The bones last far beyond the death of a being, telling the story of the being's eating habits, environment and giving a reference for what the being looked like with skin. Pretty interesting.

First, I would like a virtual contract. Something short and sweet, your phone number, address and the title and ISBN of the book (once it's done).
Also, if you are selling the book....perhaps we could talk a percentage?

Until next we converse....

Thank you for saying that this reminds you of an Indian Burial Ground...i have a deep respect for the Native American beliefs. i really worked to get this one as detailed as it is and i even showed it to my Dr. He said it was damn near perfect. ....

I will have to say that I was really in awe of this picture when I first saw it....they have strong form to them and yet you've been able to convey them as being brital....I love your ability to shade and and create depth in your pics....The contrast between the brital branch and bones, its a very formidable sentiment...The tree is allot like us in that respect. It can be so full of life, the leaves are like our organs and skin, and when they both perish, the stength of our bodies reamin, our bones..I find it amusing that allot of people in our society are so obssesed with their skin, hair, face, our outer shell, and yet, when we die and whither away, bones, the strong representation of death can remain for thousands of years.
It also reminded me of elephant bones for soem reason...how elephants mourn their dead, touching and caressing the bones, as though the life energy of their comrades are still there....Anyways..sorry about the ramble...its beautiful......

i appreciate, very much, the very in depth observations that you wrote about in your comment. Yes, bones are fascinating and we can learn so much from them.

i actually had a great deal of fun shading the bones with such detail. Some may not have given such attention to that detail. i was determined to make them look as real as possible.

You know, i don't see your comment as a ramble at all. i enjoyed reading it very much. The fact that you brought up the point that bones can remain and give a representation of death for thousands of years really impressed me. i think many people overlook that bones can last so long until they are face to face with dinosaur bones. Also, i did not know that about the elephants and what they do. THAT was very interesting!

no rambling was observed...just a very indepth look at my drawing and a train of thought that it caused for which i am totally greatful....you RAWK!

oh wow... ok THAT'S beautiful! You've managed to create depth in the picture while creating an effect of 0G and the detail and shading is outstanding. its so beautiful, not to mention that the bark on the tree looks real and I have no idea how long that must have taken you... I'm a little afraid to ask since the answer might give me a stroke. Needless to say, this is one of my favorites... and it has skulls XD what joy!

Ravens-Eye-Studio In reply to Silvercrows [2005-02-08 19:57:31 +0000 UTC]

Okay....at the risk of giving you a stroke....(which i would NEVER want to do)....the drawing, "Skeletons" did not take all that long. Actually the pelvic bone took the longest because i had to erase part of it and re-draw it. (it was not done as well as i would have liked so i had to make it more true to a real pelvic bone). The bark on the tree took the least time...only about a day. It was the most fun part because it was easy...just a bunch of scribbles basically.

Thank you for the fav and the compliments!!! I mean, holy cow! You used the word 'beautiful' Thank you, THANK you, THANK YOU!!!!!

Yes...skeletons....ahhhhh....

So frail but still so strong. I like it how your works make associations to flow free. The Bones are absolutely beautifully set into composition.

Wow! Thank you...for your comments and observations.

Yes, bones do give the impression of fagility as one looks at them. Interesting that they appear so delicate and can withstand so much.

I like also how in the end when everything else has rotten the smiling skull seems to be our last word to this world. After the misery caused by the death we will end up smiling (and after that nourishing trees). Yeah, I'm getting too excited. As I said -I have a wild imagination.

DemonicRin,

Thank you very much for the comment and the compliment. I am somewhat of a perfectionist. In fact, I am slowly driving my oil painting instructor mad with my need to make my art as perfect as I possibly can. MWAAAHAHAHA!

Thank you...and now...I must check out your gallery.
