The "Twilight" vampires don't seem to have the ability to turn into bats, my mom used to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer every morning and I can't ever recall Spike being able to turn into one, epically in situations where it would benefit him (I remember one episode where he was about to fall from a high building or something like that).

It`s a Bram Stoker thing I guess. The rules for vampire abilities and weaknesses varies from author to author anyway.

I'm no expert but it seems that in fiction the only requirement to be a vampire is the need to feed on blood.

Consuming blood is the equivalent between both fiction and history actually (that and being dead of course). Vampires 'existed' long before anyone started to write about them and they hadn`t much in common with the more charming vampires that we were first introduced to by Polidori and Stoker in the 19th century.

Werewolves are thought to be all sorts of things that people didn't know about back in those days such as rabies, autism (there's this autistic guy on you tube who refers to his autism traits like a werewolf www.youtube.com/watch?v=qduQ2g... and the way he describes it always made me wonder if possibly some supposed "werewolves" were actually autistic people) or perhaps someone who was blasted with the energy of chaos emeralds...LOL!
