Description
"The last rays of the sun shown brightly above the horizon mist, illuminating the approach of a weathered an battle scared ship. A wingless dragon of emerald scale rose from it's slumber and perched itself atop a distant hill overlooking the kingdom's castle and the bay. The sea bound travelers cheered at the sight of their old friend greeting their welcome home."An idea I've had in my head for quite some time now. I know, should have been working on commissions, but I really wanted to get this out of my head before I forgot.
This is actually a 'speed' painting, taking roughly 9 hours to complete. Yeah, I know some people that could whip out something better in much less time, but I'm so anal about my pics. I also like to put my love and devotion into my work, which is what makes my pictures so special.
Anyway, hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed drawing it.

Not sure what the gender is really. I was actually leaning towards male while drawing this just for the simple fact you don't see many female dragons with chin 'spikes' like that.

Very nice and detailed! The clouds are wonderful. Speed painting my tail you were taking your time with this one. XP But I can see why. The grass looks quite hard-worked on. I adore the setting. It looks medieval-ish and with Blue guy over there it all feels like a make-belief land where humans and Dragons encounter one another often, truly a world I'd love you have drawn there!
The good shading is actually what I'm bothered by, because you applied it everywhere including the water. Also the Dragon could have had different shading to stand out more(although the chest plates are very suited with that style) and I really wish the watery horizon were perfectly straight. I guess most of this is my fault. I'll bug ya less next time you're on blogTV. XD;

Granted it took me over the course of 4 days to finish, but counting the actual hours I put work into this was roughly 9 hours. It is still considered a speed painting.

Also, as a small suggest, maybe some oranges or yellows reflected off the dragon from the sun? or is he/she in the shadows >> hmm....

This is a really beautiful painting, the little things like the castle and the fish in the water by the boat (took me a little while to make them out

This is great! I love the colours and the atmosphere, the only thing I can suggest isto make that near front leg a little thicker, it seems a bit thin

Sky looks beautiful. Everything else could need some slight detaily touch .. like atmosphere fog, light rays and little twisty reflections from the water.
..Of course those would kill the idea of speedpainting.. but for me this piece is incomplete without few well placed and suitable tricks. >:]

I love the colours of the sky! And the whole image feels really calm. I can almost feel being outside on soft grass enjoying a cool, fresh breeze...! The balance of warm and cool colours is also really nice to look at and the castle and that distant mountainy area are a nice touch. : D
