There are also some gnomes with guitars and short beards, some people think they might be a reference to the Musician from Rayman 1.

the various roles of mushrooms in rayman games:
1. in rayman (game boy ), eating mushrooms gives you the abbilaty to fly
2. in rayman revolution (PS2) eating 'magic' mushrooms lets you shrink and grow.
3. in rayman 2/revolution (PS2,DS,DREAM CAST, PS1), most of the mushrooms that you see on the ground will jump up untop of each other to form little towers.

all in all, jumping, shrinking, growing, flying mushrooms!

Yeah, the mushrooms in Rayman 1 also jump on top of each other, like in R2. And in R3 of course you can jump on them and bounce.

I dunno though about those weird mushrooms in Rayman Revolution and the gameboy one... hmmm.
