Yup. It's kind of baffling at first.

wish they could have fixed those gender issues first. But oh well! Still a good game if you get over those things

Hmmm. There are some minor but important differences on the way of the guy (Which i call Sorcer) that is the: Ending with Dumbette, Gig's ending witch nets you a picture that Dumbette made of the male Hero and her giving a kiss(which i corrected at the Demon path by killing her)And the entireee demon path. those are the minor differences from which gender you choose.

It's true there are differences with some of the endings, but I don't recall any differences with the Demon Path. I think they play out identically.

Sorosoro In reply to Rayless-Night [2011-02-07 22:44:34 +0000 UTC]

Identically on some points but there are different chats between male and female.

I think there's only a few little things that change. It's such an oversight on the designers' part.

lol its actually SUPPOSED to be played as a female. though its true some of the script is wierd, most likely due to bad editing. whatever. but whenever soul nomad goes in another game its a female.

I always got the feeling the developers had the male main character in mind when they made SN. I'm just glad we got the female version in Disgaea 3.

That was from a past life. Revya (when played as a chick) was a dude in her past life. Same follows if you're a dude. But still, that was a past life event, just like how Vigilance was killed by Layna and his soul was taken and corrupted, and made the ever awesome, badass, destroyer of worlds, Gig.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rayless-Night In reply to Devlin66 [2010-03-19 04:12:36 +0000 UTC]

True, but the problem I saw there was that Gig and Revya had no idea that the dream came from a past life - Gig assumed it came from Revya's current life even though the baby was clearly a boy and girl!Revya clearly isn't.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Devlin66 In reply to Rayless-Night [2010-03-19 05:36:55 +0000 UTC]

But that was Median, and he has been (thought) dead for 200 years. So it would be pretty much impossible. It makes sense that they first thought it would seem like from this lifetime, but Median was from 200 yrs ago. And besides, the child died of Scarlet Iago at age 5. That's why Median killed Vigilance, so that *supposedly* Median would forever be immortal, and his son wouldn't die. It's all so confusing I know but, that's how it is.

Rayless-Night In reply to Devlin66 [2010-03-19 14:43:38 +0000 UTC]

You're right - and the whole issue is likely a failing on the writers' part - but if I remember right, Gig just asks if that was Revya, not if that was Revya from a past life. The conclusion is left for the player to come to, not the characters.

@_@ and now we know the canon one is the girl in all her glory. Because the point is, she was all Soul Nomad needed for a lead.

SN needs a god damn sequeal. They have material to work with and with a male lead like Gig. That game would pawn.
I honestly found SN more entertaining then Disgaea 1-2 I found em both boring. So I didn't play either long.

lol since SN made me curious about Nippon Ichi games XD

Rayless-Night In reply to Doki-Saku [2009-09-14 00:12:41 +0000 UTC]

I always worry a sequel will ruin a story. *sweatdrop*

But SN isn't one of their more popular titles. I doubt there'll be a sequel, though maybe they'll do a PSP version or something, like they've done with some of their other games. They could add some extra content there.

>w< I hope so!!! Nah, I saw how they did their personality in Disgaea, and it actually cleared my fear away. Since they kept everyone but Revya (she was to muted) in character.

Love Danette's pose in the very last panel. <3

Bloodly [2009-03-31 18:12:00 +0000 UTC]

It's worse than you think. In terms of game mechanics, Reyva is always a male, even when female. Thus, things which boost a male will affect 'her', and she suffers deep type disadvantage vs Gypsies, as all males do(Presumably it's the beauty...but that leads to odd thoughts all on it's own.)

It's fine, I don't mind.

Yeah, NIS definitely didn't give female Revya enough thought. Maybe being possessed by a male psycho messes with her stats. Or they were just lazy. At least she's a girl for Disgaea 3.

Thanks for dropping in.

cadeine [2008-11-07 04:17:31 +0000 UTC]

Man, you think the script's bad? I mean, aside from the eight odd times they call Revya a 'he'.

The game itself is coded for Revya to be a guy; so if you go up against characters with the Decor against male characters, Revya'd be affected D: Is it so hard to set some flags, N1?

That said and done, I laughed hard at the paraphrased script. The truth spoken!

Rayless-Night In reply to cadeine [2008-11-07 16:16:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I heard that. Maybe female Revya was just an afterthought. I'm glad they put her in, but how much money would it have cost to change a few things, NIS?

Or maybe female Revya's actually very similar to Kanan, when all's said and done...

Anyway, thanks for swinging by.

Rihsa [2008-08-02 22:33:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, when Revya had that dream, I was all like "HA HA HA, yeah, that's not Revya. That's totally someone else."

Dissapointment strikes hard.

But it could be worse. I heard the Japanese version was using male pronouns like CRAZY. In the US version, it's like a couple mistakes once in awhile... They did a good job keeping it gender neutral.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rayless-Night In reply to Rihsa [2008-08-03 02:21:59 +0000 UTC]

I didn't want to think it was Revya at first either, though in retrospect, it's an interesting plot point to work with.

Really? Sheesh, I sometimes wonder why they bothered with the two genders. Either they should've made Revya a guy, or they should've taken the time to record a few additional lines to compensate for female Revya.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rihsa In reply to Rayless-Night [2008-08-03 02:47:19 +0000 UTC]

Why'd they bothered? To set off a chain that will inspire games that'll hopefully allow you to choose the gender of the main character? 8D (I'M TALKING TO YOU, PERSONA SERIES)

... Not like that would matter if it's gender neutral.

Maybe it was a last minute thing. The game itself seems like it was hastily made, too. At least we got some nice endings. (I could talk about this all day, man... maybe.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rayless-Night In reply to Rihsa [2008-08-03 03:10:07 +0000 UTC]

Hm, P3 with a female lead...that could've been really interesting. Personally, I'm sick of heroes always being 17 year old guys, so anything that messes with the stereotype is good. But given the way P3 is, they would have had to make twice as many sets of social links.

Some games have gone with dual stories - two separate but related story paths, one lead by a girl, one by a guy. That can be interesting too.

Yeah, I also got the feeling SN was a rush job. Even NIS seems to give it less attention.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

PS2girl [2008-08-02 19:42:43 +0000 UTC]

Does it really not change the dream if you're a girl? I haven't played with the girl yet so I didn't know.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rayless-Night In reply to PS2girl [2008-08-03 02:19:17 +0000 UTC]

Well, I've never played as a guy, but I assume there isn't any change. The baby's called a boy, and Gig *still* asks if that was Revya when she was a baby. And Revya *still* isn't sure.

Revya, Revya. You may be wondering about some things in your life, but surely not *that*.

Did I use enough asterisks?
