Description Mosteiro dos JerΓ³nimos of Lisbon, built to celebrate Vasco da Gama's discovery of India. It was funded by taxes on the spice trade.

Can you believe that those thin and tall pillars, which were built in the 1500s, stood up to an earthquake of 9 on the Richter scale, and a gigantic tsunami that followed... Most of Lisbon was destroyed by those two events, in 1755.

This is my second image from here. The other one is here .

Regarding editing, I classify this as a: level 2 photo .

this is seriously fantasic!
the lens uve used makes the collums look like trees growing, and with the window at the end casting that lovely light thoughout the image it looks like a forest!, espeically in thumbnail view. Such a good shot i think deseves more than just one comment .

a couple of things i would mention that i think could be removed are the lens flair... wich really isnt to good , and the people.. arnt that noticable, but the image would be more surreal without them.. the more you could take scale out of the picture the better this image would become i think.

but like i said..
bloody great work!

keep it up

Thank you for the really interesting comment!!

I think I agree with you about the lens flare. What I don't like about it is the way it interacts with the border... I will try to improve that some time not far from now, and will repost. Maybe that will help...

I think I also see what you mean about the people,... but I want scenes like these to include people if possible, to make them less abstract. Maybe the people on the left make the scene larger than the person in the middle does. I won't take him out digitally though, and I can't go there again too soon to take another photo again.

I've read somewhere about an interesting technique to make people disappear from architectural shots in crowded places. You use the smallest aperture setting, and even a ND (neutral density) filter to reduce light to a minimum. Then you expose for a few minutes... as needed. People will be blurred out of existance by their own movement.

Thanks again!

One amazing thing about ancient buildings is that they are both beautiful and resistent. Nowadays houses fall too easily and some are just sad-looking-cement-cubes. Oh well...
