Man this is magnificent! glad to finally find a great vertical pano of this place! The one thing that gets me is that it's a little creepy looking, the feel.. While in reality, at least for me, I only had a feeling of total awe. Even when I got to go down into where the graves are in the lower room--I was with somebody speacial
Nevertheless, very well done!

I think I know what you mean... Maybe it's the way the walls seem to be leaning in, or the spidery legs on the ceiling that seem to crawl closer... Looking at it from the top down provokes more of a sentiment of awe to me, but if I read it from the bottom-up it looks dominating and menacing, indeed...

It's interesting that you saw it that way - thank you for telling me!

The two things that I think increase the creepiness are the person walking down the isle, he looks like he has no legs! lol and the dark atmosphere. Those things along with what you point out.. I hope it didn't come across as much of a crit, because I do love the shot. S'why I faved it!

I feel enveloped by this. It's kind of like I'm really there, but I have no money, so I'm sitting on the floor.

I see a lot of the people, like the man walking down the center aisle are by luck. Great job, either way!

Multiple thanks!

Luck plays big roles indeed... I wish I could go back and improve on the technical aspects of the photo - but then I wonder if it would be worth losing the man walking down the middle isle. And that was so natural - he was there precisely when I decided I was ready to start shooting. And I realised I didn't have a second to lose...

wow this is truly breathtaking, what i like the most is the combination of colors from different light sources-- the blues at the very top to the warm yellows/oranges at the bottom, what a great picture of a wonderful place. Beautifully composed and it excellently captures the grandness and ambiance of Notre Dame. STUNNING! BRAVO.. instant

I really like this! A lot of feeling. It's very human, while also very encompassing. It has the feeling that this work is what you visualized during the process. As such, I can't make any comments or critiques. It's all yours, now.

I also like that you give a scale for editing amounts in digital photos. While it would be unwelcome at an exhibition, it's nice to see it here, where it's meant to be shown for learning purposes as much as anything. Thank you.

However, your comment on medium-format doesn't make any sense. The steadiness of the camera has nothing to do with the base resolution of the format in which you're working.

RazorBlack In reply to atenlaugh [2005-03-14 17:44:47 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the kind words!! I was lucky with some parts of this photo (the man in the aisle) and there are more which could be improved a lot. I'm happy knowing there's room to improve, and yet it's still good enough to be liked!

I didn't realise that I left the tripod comment unexplained... The tripod also keeps the camera rotating around the same axis in space, so the individual photos are aligned properly - which makes it possible to stitch the individual photos together more correctly. There is a lot of good information about this here: [link] .
By stitching them you get more resolution as well, so I was saying (very approximately of course) you obtain the same photo as you would with a medium-format and a very wide-angle lens.

atenlaugh In reply to RazorBlack [2005-03-14 20:52:28 +0000 UTC]

Ah, right. The difference between 'local resolution' and 'absolute resolution'. I understand now.

And yes, that's a very cool technique, used well, here.
