Description
The USS Stargazer (NCC-2893) is a Constellation-class starship in service with Federation Starfleet in the 24th century.The Stargazer enters service in 2326. In 2333 their captain died in a battle, so Jean-Luc Picard, at that time still a lieutenant commander, was given command. It's his first, and he's kept it going for 22 years, with the Stargazer involved in many first contact missions.
In 2354, the Stargazer, commanded by Picard, visits the planet Chalna.
During the Federal-Cardassian War, the USS Stargazer is in Sector 21503, fleeing a Cardassian warship using warp. Captain Picard is supposed to make offers of a ceasefire to the Cardassians. As a gesture of goodwill, he takes the energy from the protective shield. The Cardassians disable most of the Stargazer's weapons and damage their impulse drive.
The ship is lost in the Battle of Maxia against the Ferengi in 2355 and Picard has to answer for it before a court-martial presided over by Judge Phillipa Louvois. In this battle, the Stargazer is the first ship to fly the Picard maneuver, which later became widely known.
