Description Amethyst is the first in a collection of dolls celebrating the wealth of gifts we have in nature in the north. She was made as a portfolio piece to apply for an Ontario Arts Grant.
That I received !!!
She stands 18 inches high. Her head and hands are made of paper clay over stong armatures, carved, sanded then painted and sealed. Her body is cloth and fully jointed. She has at least 9 layers of clothing and everything is beaded including her shoes and pantaloons with amethyst or amethyst like beads. Her "hair" I think is one of her best features.
She holds in her left hand a large chunck of raw amethyst. She will have a pink/grey "granite" cloak with the interior beaded with white and clear quartz crystals.
I hope to take her soon to have her photographed at an area amethyst mine.

Oh my goodness ! You'll have me blushing ! Thank you for your good words. It is indeed high praise coming from you. I do promise that all will show up here over the next year. How can I not. It will be the only thing that I will be working on and this, when I am in studio, is my only social life of peers.
I had a meeting with the grant coordinater last week. She was present for the jurying but only as an obsever. Each visual arts needed to send in 10 jpg images of their work. She said that although these jury members who are annonimus had the written stuff for 3 months to read, they only got together once to see jpgs ect. one time. She said that it made a huge difference that I had gone ahead and made a figure of the project I was asking for the money for. They threw the images up on the wall 6 ft high and I am glad it stood up to that scrutiny. I am glad that Amethyst made the grade. Working on forest floor now and then ice is next.
