Another resurrected image from my Xena past.Let me tell you,...when a person spends as much time replicating the likeness of these characters as I did....an innevitable artistic bond is established. I probably knows as much about these people's feature's as they do. From pore size to asymmetrical features, to exact knee size and shape to lip creases. It is definitely an odd feeling....but nastolgic. My time as the "Xena Artist" greatly furthered my ability. It was definitely the beginning marker of my artistic growth.

This looks gorgeous! Such details and emotion! I'm watching this serie sright now. I'm now somewhere at teh beginning of season 2 and I LOVE this series! Xena and Gabrielle are amazing! I can't really pick a favorite.. Love them both in their own way

this is really wonderful work!
I am trying to draw Xena portraits myself, but it is still experimental. I totally understand that bond you speaking of. Even though I feel as if I can get every feature of her face I am still not quite able to reproduce it on paper.
I hope one day it will come out just as perfect as your drawings.

I was always a bit curious as to why you drew so many Xena pictures. I figured it was just an affinity for the show (ie. fangirl).
Now, because of your description, I'm a tad bit curious. Was this drawn from a working knowledge of the subjects, or did you have a photo reference to work off of here? If the prior proves to be true, then I'm simply amazed.

Many times I used up to 30 photos as combined reference to do my Xena portraits. This one I only worked off of a handful. I certainly was a fangirl. Though I became much less of one as the show deteriorated. I started out with a couple drawings for my own satisfaction, and for some reason the art just caught on so quickly until I was doing illustrations for numerous fans and eventually licensed the art out to official Universal distributors. I kind of "fell" into the niche.

I was quite enamored with the show at first myself, but I'll wholey agree with you in saying that it "deteriorated" over time. I guess I've always been infatuated with feminine strength and beauty... and antiheroes... so that's probably the main reason why it appealed to me so much at first.
It's kinda funny and actually kinda cool how you just "fell" into the niche. I'm always afraid that when an artist is being paid to draw, it usually involves "selling their soul" in some way.
And now that I think about it, you must have been reasonably young when you were doing these, It's admirable to be recognized professionally at that age, so I guess it was a pretty lucrative opportunity. And, now that recall, I've also seen a picture from you printed on a magic card once, I laughed at first out of total disbelief, but it's actually pretty cool. I don't play magic, though if I did, I'd of used the card.
Point is, you've done well for yourself so far.
