Whassssup!?,

I thought some of you might like to check out a bit of the background work that went into creating the Gambit and Rogue drawing I posted recently. You can see the coloured version here: [link]

fig A: This was my initial thumbnail. I did a bunch of sketches in my sketchbook to get an idea of Gambits poses. This was the one I was happiest with, so I went for it.

figB: This was my full size blue pencil rough version of the thumbnail, which i liked....but there was something missing here. Not dynamic enough perhaps? I dunno...Looking back, its still kinda cool, but i wanted to draw Gambit BIGGER! I have a bad habit of trying to fill the page too much.

fig C: All of a sudden, I decided to flip the page and draw what became the final piece on the back of the board! This is why the whol drawing is completely different to the thumbnail. I added Rogue in there. My plan was for her to accent the visual flow of the page. I'll admit that it was an after-thought though.

So there ya go...thats pretty much how I do my work. I'm working on another pin-up for an Aussie comic at the moment, and I'll probably post some more process stuff on that one so you guys can watch the piece develop before your eyes!
