Thank you so much, this is really helpful because I just can't seem to get the proportions right.

nice.. i'm looking through tutorials/guidelines on how to draw a body better. i basically got the face down, but i need some actual way to draw bodies..i like the way you did this, maybe i'll have to give it a try. my only problem would be the imagination with the legs.. hmm.

Hmm... Its great, but its not realistically accurate. Sorry if this sounds mean, but hey! Criticism helps one grow!

Realistically accurate in what sense? Real body type? Popular body type? Comic body type? There are a lot of body types to follow so I'm not exactly sure what you're saying in a sense, but let's say that there could be mistakes. I did make this like three years ago. Styles come and go.

I possibly have a different drawing style now (I haven't drawn anything for almost a year as you can see from the lack of posts). Anyway, thanks for the comment.

I know this is a really old post, but I want to clarify one thing here: Manga or Anime-like characters are usually not drown to correct, realistic proportions.

To the artist: thanks for posting. I will soooooo be drawing this tonight.

What's the most clear difference between the male body and female body?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

red-jello04 In reply to AuroraWhite [2010-06-28 14:23:48 +0000 UTC]

Male body has less curves (lol obviously), has broader and slightly more rigid body parts (particularly the shoulders), and it obviously taller than female. Female body has more curves, slender bodies, smaller hands than males, and the chest and waist commonly have the same measurement (though there are some who prefers the chest bigger or other one) if you're drawing a well-proportioned body. Even if you're drawing a female characters who's ideally a wrestler, she would still have to retain these features though her arms, stomach and thighs should have more details (such as the muscles).

AuroraWhite In reply to red-jello04 [2010-06-29 05:43:38 +0000 UTC]

so,If I wanted to make a female figure, where do I place more focus on the curves to make the female appear, female? I mean, aside from the um....chest

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

red-jello04 In reply to AuroraWhite [2010-06-29 12:28:46 +0000 UTC]

Other than the chest would the waist and thighs, and the shoulder joints. The legs can be included but they are dependent on the waist and thighs.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AuroraWhite In reply to red-jello04 [2010-06-30 08:07:08 +0000 UTC]

what about younger females? do the same rules apply?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

red-jello04 In reply to AuroraWhite [2010-06-30 14:02:02 +0000 UTC]

Not much. Children, both male and female, from ages well baby to 11 or 12 (depending on nationality) have the same body type. As far as I know, female westerners grow and gain more curves than female asians so I guess you have to think about this as well.

Girls may have some curves but only on the thighs and the shoulders are rounded as usual than the males. But then again, it depends on what you're drawing and what kind of body type you're following. When I say body type (if I haven't mentioned this to you) I mean are you drawing the typical popular body-type? Digimon-like comical-body type? Real type? And others. There are many areas to consider.

I thank thy for this. Its very helpful. I was wondering if you have the time could you do like 1/4 view, 3/4 view, and possibly side-view. But that is IF you have time. No worries if you can't I was just curious. Thanks so much for this one though really puts things in perspective for me at least haha.

Aw I'm glad that this tutorial helped you (albeit it lacked any instructions). There are a lot of tutorial I still have in mind and the next one would either be a hair tutorial or a hand tutorial. Not sure when I'll be post but I'm hoping after my preliminary examinations which would be around...early August. Yeah It'll take a while but my academics are my priority at this moment (It's my last year in university so please bear with me).

I'll try to make the tutorial that you wanted I'm sure the others would like that as well.
