Description
Barry Allen and Wally West, aka The Flash and Kid Flash, in their apartment in Los Angeles, CA, scoured the internet for any and all information on the past 20 or so years. They learned that the World Trade Center in New York City, in 2001, was destroyed in a terrorist attack, killing hundreds of people; our heroes figured that Metron somehow succeeded in preventing the first Superman, Jor-El, from reaching our Earth from his decimated future Earth, called “Ilnolmed”. After the devastating attacks, California, Oregon, and Washington State seceded from the union and became the New California Union. The Flashes knew that there had to be more to this altered history that they aren’t seeing, so they donned their speedster-hero costumes and ran off to find The Martian, a new hero from New York City they deduced to be an altered version of their friend and former Justice League teammate Dr. John Jones. They started running out towards the edge of LA at high speeds, when there was what sounded like a police siren behind them! Riding upon a highly-technologically-advanced police motorcycle, one that was able to match the speed of the Flashes, and clad in equally-advanced police response gear, a man pursued them and commanded the speedsters to pull over or face “appropriate measures”. The Flashes tried to outrun and out-maneuver the motorcycle cop throughout the city, but to no avail, and the cop then pulled out a yellow-glowing blade to slash at the tendon of Flash’s heel. The injured Flash crashed into the side of a building, holding his cut tendon in pain as it rapidly began healing. Kid Flash got to Flash’s side as the super-cop pulled up, and a police chopper appeared overhead. A team of four people, resembling the members of Flash’s Rogues, descended from the chopper and flanked the super-cop as he took off his helmet to proclaim:
“As an officer of the NCU Police Meta-Response Division, I, Lt. Hunter Zolomon, are placing you two unregistered metahumans under arrest.”
Kid Flash tried to reason with Lt. Zolomon, who we later learn is codenamed “Hot Pursuit”, but he was hearing none of it. He ordered this universe’s Citizen Cold, called Captain Cold, to freeze them with his cryo-cannon so the MRD can bring them in for questioning. Flash’s injury was soon enough healed and he punched Captain Cold in the face. Flash battled Hot Pursuit, Captain Cold, and Heatstroke (this universe’s version of Heat Wave), while Kid Flash tangled with Mirror Major and Prankster (who are supposed to be this world’s versions of Mirror Master and Trickster). Having experience battling these people from their previous existence, Flash and Kid Flash defeated everyone on this Meta-Response team, but struggled battling Hot Pursuit. As the leader of this team, Hot Pursuit wielded exceptional technology that countered the speedsters, but eventually they gained the upper hand and defeated him. With this victory, Flash and Kid Flash ran off.
En route to New York City, Barry and Wally stopped by their old hometown of Nickle Mines, PA, in the old Amish community they were raised in. In their civilian garb, Barry and Wally investigated this world’s version of themselves. Barry learned that he had died after leaving the Amish community, and Barry’s father Henry was murdered by Barry’s mother Nora, who blamed her husband for their son’s death. Nora died in prison. When asked about Eobard Thawne, the Amish school teacher who taught Barry (and who was secretly an evil scientist who later became the villain Zoom), the locals said that they never heard of him before. As for Iris West, Wally’s older cousin and Barry’s wife, they found out that she’s been locked up in the Arkham Institute ever since her mental breakdown following Wally’s death in a school shooting. Barry, taking all this information in, swore to Wally that they will fix what had happened to the world, somehow. And then they ran off for New York…
Notes:
* Hot Pursuit, in the original comics, was an alternate version of Barry Allen. Here, he’s Hunter Zolomon, a villain from the original comics who was the second to take up the identity and powers of Zoom.
** This Hot Pursuit’s energy sword is based on the original’s energy baton.
* Captain Cold has a more advanced version of Citizen Cold’s old cryo-cannon.
* Heatstroke still has Heat Wave’s bodily burn scars beneath his costume.
