Description

At the New York City corporate building of Prometheus Corp., the members of both the Justice League and Prometheus’ own private superhero team Infinity Inc. confronted the corporation’s board of directors. They were soon enough revealed to be A.I.-controlled androids in human facades, created and controlled by Prometheus’ President and CEO William MacIntyre. This entire company was just a front for MacIntyre’s insidious master plan to mutate everyone on Earth into superhumans using a weapon that will permeate the atmosphere with his Everyman chemicals! The JL called in their associate member The Atom, who was nearly framed for murder by Prometheus’ shrinking hitman Dwarfstar, and the entirety of The Titans, who had also been investigating MacIntyre for the murder of a scientist and for creating a cybernetically-enhanced assassin in their employ named Hardware. Another independent hero, Usud-Adam aka The Marvel, also came to meet with these teams. He claims that there’s “been a shift in his magical fluctuations” and that MacIntyre may be responsible. Jake “Cyborg” Johnson, the leader of Infinity Inc., confessed that he stole a fraction of Adam’s crystalline matrix, which went into the Everyman System, and begged forgiveness, since he, along with the rest of Infinity Inc., was also deceived by MacIntyre. With a full force of heroes assembled, they re-read the files that Batman stole from Prometheus to discover the exact location that MacIntyre will launch the weapon into Earth’s orbit from. In the Nevada desert, MacIntyre managed to reach he and his secret laboratory and launch platform for the weapon after his betrayal and deception was discovered. He informed Hank Hall and Dawn Granger, aka Monarch and Lady Quark, who were overseeing the weapon’s launch preparations, to prepare their army of Atomic Knights for battle. Soon after, The Javelin, The T-Ship, and The Skyman landed right outside the perimeter of the launch site. A gigantic platoon of Atomic Knights swarmed out to confront the heroes inside and the war was underway. The heroes gained the upper hand and managed to pierce the inner halls of the facility. Inside, Green Lantern Kyle Rayner and Titan Wonder Girl found Infinity Inc. members Stargirl and STRIPE in prison cells. They explained that they were teleported to this lab and imprisoned by the Atomic Knights so that MacIntyre and Monarch and study Stargirl’s gravity weapon. The two heroes freed them, but another force working for MacIntyre attacked them! A woman calling herself Mary Marvel tackled both Kyle Rayner and Wonder Girl, then took Kyle by the leg and used him as a club to beat up Wonder Girl. The Marvel confronted Mary Marvel, realizing she’s the disturbance in his magics that MacIntyre created, and they did battle in the skies. Superman and Power Girl did battle with Monarch and Lady Quark, who match them by firing Krypton-particle lasers from their hand; the battle had them crashing through a lab where they were experimenting on dogs and wolves for their Atomic Knights’ mutated hound mounts. In the middle of this chaos and warfare, the weapon launched with MacIntyre inside! Monarch broke from the battle and managed to get into the weapon as it rose to the skies. Superman and Power Girl pursued, but were blasted back to Earth by his Krypton lasers. The only hero who managed to get onboard the weapons platform was Batman. As it finally entered Earth’s orbit, a 10-minute countdown began that would trigger the Everyman atmospheric-saturation once it finished. Batman plugged into the console and tried to stop it, but he was attacked from behind by MacIntyre himself. He’s now wearing battle armor and a helm that enhanced his cognitive functions, along with the latest version of his Omnitrix gauntlet. Claiming he is now Prometheus himself, he explained that he lost years of his life in a mental ward after being cranially injured during the Justice League’s battle with the alien invader S’Tar-Ro. He swore that he would give all of humankind the power that small groups like the Justice League selfishly kept to themselves. That he would “steal the fire of the gods to give to humanity”. As Batman fought Prometheus to a standstill, Monarch went to the console and plugged in a container of a new chemical. Prometheus saw this and tried to stop the payload override, but he was too late. The new chemical dispersal would kill a fraction of humanity, and he and Lady Quark would rule the survivors with an iron fist. He then blasted the console so no-one could stop the countdown. Batman radioed his team and informed them of this. Power Girl, the two Green Lanterns, Firestorm, and Captain Atom (shielded by the Lanterns’ power) flew towards the weapons platform. Batman defeated Prometheus and Monarch as the flying heroes pushed the weapon as far from Earth as possible. Batman then planted all of the C4 he had on him onto the console to destroy the weapon but he was grabbed from behind by Prometheus, who was going to kill Batman by preventing him from escaping the blast. The other heroes and villains watched from the surface of the planet at the weapons platform harmlessly exploded in the space, destroying both Monarch’s poison and the Everyman chemicals. The Green Lanterns returned to Earth carrying Batman, Monarch, and Firestorm. Unfortunately, Power Girl, Captain Atom, and Prometheus died in the blast. As Superman and his son Steel collapsed to the floor, crying and mourning their beloved niece and cousin, another figure appeared in the sky. It was a pure-white husky puppy, one that the scientists in this lab were experimenting on, that was flying and carrying Power Girl in his teeth. She was out cold, but, miraculously, still alive. Superman cradled her in his arms and cried tears of joy...

Notes:

* The Javelin, the T-Ship, and The Skyman are the respective ships of the JL, the Titans, and Infinity Inc.

* The vaporizing ray that Stargirl and STRIPE were shot with was actually a teleporter that brought them to the secret Nevada desert facility.

* Mary Marvel using Kyle Rayner as a club to smack around Wonder Girl is an infamous scene from the original comic series Countdown.

** Mary Marvel is Mary Batson, twin sister of the previous Marvel Billy Batson. She selfishly wanted the Marvel’s power, and MacIntyre cut a deal with her. He implanted her with his own version of Adam’s crystal matrix and she can now become Mary Marvel by speaking the magic word “SHAZAM”.

** Mary disappeared in the chaos of the weapon’s detonation, but she’ll be back.

Epilogue:

* Normal life returned to the heroes soon after this crisis.

* Monarch, Lady Quark, their Atomic Knights, and Blight were arrested and sentenced to prison. Blackfire escaped, though.

* Infinity Inc. disbanded as the Prometheus Corporation was investigated and dismantled.

* Jake “Cyborg” Johnson, Cori “Starfire” Antunez, and Logan “Beast Boy” Nakahara joined The Titans.

* Logan and Rajya, aka Raven of the Titans, started dating soon after this.

* Logan also mentioned to the JL and the Titans the potential for greatness shown by the newly formed hero team called The Doom Patrol.

* Power Girl, Firestorm, Stargirl and STRIPE resumed their work of helping people as independent heroes, turning down Superman’s offer to join the Justice League.

* John Kent and Kara forgave each other for the other’s transgressions and they became a family again.

* Living on her own, Kara adopted the husky puppy that saved her life, realizing that he was genetically-engineered to have Superman’s powers. She named him “Krypto” (short for Krypton, because he’s ‘such a dang menace’).

* Cassandra Kane was legally declared sane again and reunited with her family, forgiving her cousin Bruce Wayne for what happened.

** Barbara Gordon agreed to restart her engagement to marry Bruce.

* Dax "Shadow Thief" Rancel was officially freed from prison on Thanagar. He gave up his life of crime and reunited with his friend Corla Tavo, who had just given birth to a healthy son.

* Harley Fitzpatrick, Pamela Isley, and Selina Kyle are now all roommates, having moved back to Pittsburgh.

* Byron “Geoforce” Markov returned to Georgia, once again swearing to defend him homeland with his powers.

* With MacIntyre dead, Tatsu "Katana" Yamashiro found herself back in the good graces of her Yakuza clan, reuniting with her husband and two sons.

* The civil war on the planet Skartaris is still going on, but the forces of the good-hearted Princess Amethyst are winning.

* Cisco Ramon is still supporting the Flash’s heroic endeavors, though not as a metahuman hero himself.

* Sondra Fuller is still alive, and is somewhere out there…

* Sean O’Jeneus, aka Gizmo, felt like he didn’t receive proper justice for his brother’s death at MacIntyre’s hands, so he escaped prison and returned to crime.

* Once Donna Sandsmark, aka Wonder Girl, turned 18, she started dating Connor “Steel” Kent.

* Hardware was imprisoned and Edwin Alva went into hiding.

* Alva’s step-son Kevin, mutated by vaporized Everyman chemicals from earlier, is still missing.

* Jason “Firestorm” Raymond later discovered that he now possesses some of the late Captain Atom’s matter-manipulation powers.

* Later, in the year 2018, the Omnitrix gauntlet that Prometeus was wearing was found on Earth, in North America. A ten-year-old boy named Ben Tennyson, who was camping with his cousin Gwen and their grandfather Max, found the ”watch” in a forest, and it forcefully bound itself to Ben’s left wrist…

I don't know why, but this is my favourite epilogue so far. Maybe because is more "grounded" of the Epilogue of Part I and Part II. I really felt for Jor-El and even for MacIntyre.
Mary Marvel as a villain is a nice twist, not unexpected though since she look more similar to her counterpart from Crisis from the Two Earths.

Now i can't wait to see what's up next, especially with Ben 10 involved.

Pretty great, if I can say so! I'd like to know how Batman defeated Prometheus, though, since in the comics, he's usually one of the few guys who can actually take down the Bat. Would've been nice to see him taking on the entire league, too, eventually getting overrun and defeated.

Batman had to separate Prometheus from the Omnitrix gauntlet before he could do anything else. That's why Ben doesn't find the Omnitrix with a severed hand attached to it.

I hope Mary Marvel turns good in a not-too-distant future.

PS: the other day I was thinking about asking you if Krypton was going to appear, good way to include it

Ben 10 will be the Absolute DC equivalent of the "Dial H For Hero" series of DC Comics.

I always thought that Man of Action had that in mind when they created the Ben 10 franchise.
