Description One night, in a luxury apartment building in New Jersey, Dr. Malcolm Jones and his assistant Diane Meadehad set up a projection screen in Jones's personal laboratory. The audience was Dr. John Jones, Malcolm's twin brother, who was seconds away from learning more about the Martian parasite he had contracted long ago. Malcolm had recreated an aproximation of what the martians actually looked like based on his genetic research into them and Mars' theoretical past history of bearing oceans. The martians were possibly all aquatic, and that their parasitic biology is a means of reproduction. John's powers, which he gained from the infection, may all have basis in biological nesscessity; shapeshifting and intangibility maybe are means of evading larger predators and the telepathy a means of communication. The parasite feeding off John's fearful, subconscious reaction to fire is perhaps a means of hunting smaller prey using their telepathy. Malcolm also looked into Dr. Saul Erdel, who was also infected but was killed, and discovered a colleague of his: Dr. Raymond Palmer. Malcolm contacted Palmer and he's now en route to Malcolm's office at STAR Labs to help them. Later that night, when John returned to his motel room (he couldn't stay at Malcolm's because the government is hunting John and is keeping tabs on his family to see if they're helping him), he got a discrete call from Diane saying to meet with her first when he comes to STAR Labs the next night, saying it's important. That night, John, in a trench coat, met with Diane and Dr. Palmer in the parking garage of STAR Labs. She revealed to them a back way into Malcolm's laboratory, where they've been working on the research on the martian parasite. John and Palmer discover an alien capsule, the same kind that led a martian parasite to infect a KKK cell, and saw that it was manufactured by human hands. They also found a flight manifesto that showed a plane flying over where said cell was, and mini-explosives that made the capsule burn as though it was descending to Earth from deep space. Diane confessed to John and Palmer that she helped Malcolm fake a martian incursion from space so he could study the effects of the parasite samples he collected from John. John went to Malcolm's lab to confront him, demanding to know why he was the one who unleashed martian parasites on the populace. Malcolm claims that humankind, on the whole, is progressing too slowly to keep up with the degredation of the global ecosystem and the rise of the metahuman subspecies. That infusion with the parasites will make humanity stronger and not only able to survive the inevitable destruction of earth, but thrive in the wastes and able rebuild. Malcolm had already injected himself with another sample and was changing. He then took a gun and fired his gun at Palmer to kill him, saying that he's one of the few that could find a cure to the parasites. John battled Malcolm to a stand-still, but Malcolm activated a countdown to a dispersal of parasites into the city's water supply. John held him against the console, demanding to cancel the device, but Malcolm injected him with a syringe of a compound that furthered John's mutation. While John writhed in pain on the floor, Dr. Palmer, having survived the attack, quickly changed into his ATOM suit and shrunk down to attack Malcolm. He entered Malcolm's brain and began growing, causing a torturous headache to distract Malcom long enough for Diane to override Malcolm's command and disable the countdown. Malcolm's mutated anatomy attacked Palmer and ejected him from Malcolm's brain, and he went for Diane. To save Diane, John grabbed a vat of acid with his new tentacles and killed Malcolm, melting both his human and alien sides into a goo. Having mutated even further and killed his own brother, Dr. John Jones disappeared out of shame...

Notes:
* Malcolm Jones is based on the martian villain Malfic from the original comics.
* Malcolm theorized that the martian's mass extinction may have something to do with an iron-based acidic compound that NASA discovered in the frozen waters of Mars during their first manned mission to the planet (which Dr. John Jones was part of and where he first contracted the parasite).
* After contracting the parasite, Malcolm became able to travel by swinging around on his new tendrils to make up for his paralyzed legs (which he thought he could fix with the infection).
* Unable to use his shapeshifting anymore to cover up the alien parts of him, Dr. Jones now holds up in the headquarters of the Justice League in a self-imposed exile.
** Dr. Palmer offered to help him, but John refused, seeing it as utterly hopeless now...

Wow, things just keep getting more tragic for John. Also, props on the Martian designs and ideas in this one.

Was Diane Meade introduced already, or is this her introduction? (I don't remember)
