If the things on its back remind you of Sandslash, they're actually like louvers that go all the way across his back for when he rolls into a ball and I guess the armor and head armor is a little Cranidos

Now that doesn't necessarily make the design bad. After all, I'm a fan of Sandlash and Cranidos. I just can't look at it without seeing the similarities.
