Description
King Ahadi was never as strong or as healthy as he should be. Born in the middle of a terrible drought, he spent the first few formative months barely surviving, as his mother rarely had enough milk to feed him. Eventually the drought ended and the Pride Lands flourished once more, but the damage to the young prince was done. He never grew to be a big lion, and he often had chest pains and shortness of breath growing up that caused him to be bedridden for days at a time.

A weak heart, the mjuzi had told him. He needed to be careful and not overly stress it, or he could die. So Ahadi did just that, doing his duties as king but doing his best to remain as stress free as possible. Uru, for awhile, was able to help by taking some of the stress of ruling off of him, dealing with the more unsavory and dangerous bits while Ahadi dealt with more delicate and political stuff. For a long time this worked, until their massive blow out over who was to be his heir many years later. Uru stopped helping him, only stepping in in cases where the pride or the Pride Lands were in danger. Otherwise, she left the ruling completely up to Ahadi, since he so obviously cared little for her feelings and opinions on such matters. Add that to the stress caused by a fracturing pride and a son who hated him, and you can imagine just how stressed the king was on a daily basis.

Eventually the added stress caught up to Ahadi. He left one day mid-afternoon to get a drink of water at the watering hole. When the sun started to set and Ahadi had yet to return home, Mufasa began to worry about his adopted father. No one in the pride had seen him since he left, so a concerned Mufasa left to find him. When Mufasa arrived at the watering hole, he found the king lying motionless by the water. And when he tried to rouse Ahadi, he found, much to his horror, the king's body to be cold to the touch.

The king was dead.

The sun had set on King Ahadi's reign, and now, for better or for worse, it was time for a new king to rise in his place.

NOTES: AU Ahadi died of a heart attack, for anyone who's wondering. He didn't have time to call out for help or anything. He just felt a sudden sharp pain in his chest one moment, and then slumped over dead the next. On another note, I think I'm going to call this AU either the Adopted AU or the Orphaned AU, since Mufasa is adopted orphan in this AU.
