Description
Zanta ("beautiful girl" in Swahili) is the daughter of Thimba and Chinika, the sister of Mohatu and Jafari, the mate of Alama, and the adopted mother of Swala, Majivuna, Kuanguka, and Taine.

Zanta was born last out of her siblings, born just a few minutes after her brothers. While Mohatu is sweet and gentle, and Jafari is mean and selfish, Zanta is more outgoing and tomboyish, and this is one of the reasons why she's chosen to be the next Lion Guard leader over Jafari. However, that doesn't mean she doesn't like being a girly girl at times, either. She takes pride in her looks, even when she ends up sprouting a partial mane and losing part of her tail, but she never lets her good looks or her status as the leader of the Lion Guard go to her head.

Due to both her status and her fairly humble nature, she finds many lions aching for her attention. But Zanta isn't interested in any of them. There's only one lion she's interested in. Or rather, one lioness.

Her name is Alama, and Zanta has been completely enamored with her since she could remember. Alama is older than her by a couple of months, and is everything Zanta wishes she could be. She is pretty, strong, popular, a great hunter, and everyone loves her for her, not just because of her heritage. And just like herself, Alama has many males lined up waiting for a chance to woo her. Zanta just couldn't have that. She had to have Alama for herself. So she did everything she could to get Alama to notice her, no matter how stupid or dangerous it was. Often times Alama herself had to bail Zanta out of whatever trouble she had gotten into. And dispite the fact that it annoyed Alama, it worked. She noticed the young princess, and began feeling the same way about her. So after finally confessing their feelings for one another, they headed back to the pride and declared that they were mates. The pride's reactions varied.

Thimba is disgusted with his daughter, and quickly disowns her. Jafari refuses to speak with her. Mohatu is put off at first, but quickly surported his sister's choice in a mate. Chinika is more than happy that her daughter found herself the mate she had been looking for, not caring about the gender of said mate. Half of the pride avoided the pair, while the other half accepted them for who they were. But none of that mattered to Zanta and Alama. They had each other, and that's all that truly mattered. Together, they raised many orphans both of lionine and non-lionine nature, and lived out the rest of their lives together.

Zanta dies of a broken heart days after Alama dies from a heart attack, around the time Mufasa, Takatso, and Awali are coming into their manes.

NOTES: Zanta has had a huge update to her appearance. She's now based on one of the former Lion Guard leaders seen in a cave painting in the Lair of the Lion Guard. Specifically the one on the lower left here . I noticed that it look like this guy could possibly only have a partial mane, but he seems to be missing part of his tail as well. I decided to make this lion Zanta, and made her a maned lioness to justify the mane on her cave painting. I also added some scars since I doubt she would have gotten away scar free since she was the leader for a long time, and she's now missing part of her tail like in the cave painting. What happened to cause this? Idk, probably a fight with a rogue or some hyenas or something. But she's still pretty regardless.
