Description Filmed at Neil Finn's Roundhead Studios, late 2011. The artificial music intelligence C:Lux and audio prodigy Module jam out a live version of "The Pieces Fit".

C:Lux often mentions in interviews how she can perceive the underlying structures of space-time, and how their tenuous multi-dimensional beauty inspire her in many of her musical projects. I only hope I've managed to interpret some of that beauty here.

I know some of you have been waiting a long time to see this one - so have I ha ha! There were a few hiccups, delays and stressful moments, but here it is!

"The Pieces Fit" comes from Module's album "Imagineering" which you can find on iTunes and Bandcamp.

Very rich piece, beautifully done.

I tend to agree with Trevor on the cutaways - start them sooner. Maybe some NASA/ Hubble space telescope stills, or fractal animations (Fractron9000 does some stunning stuff that would fit perfectly with this mood, I think).

But I like the texture of the singer. She has grace and poise, but you make it perfectly clear that we are dealing with an artificial intelligence here.

Beautiful work!

Hey, thanks for the comments! C:Lux is definitely a character I loved creating and animating - hopefully one day we'll get to see more of her!

Nice video, i like a colors and atmosphere, but CGI robot is like a 3D model without texture, i think that you can do much better in future, texture and lights is biggest thing in cgi.

But very good results!

Hey thanks for the comments! I definitely concede that rendering is not my forte so I tend to keep texturing and lighting reasonably simple. Character animation and storytelling is far more important for me.

Cheers!

wow I really love the effects and stuff on this one! it was a really just touching and enveloping song! the only slightly downside i had was you couldn't always here the words, she was low, but that still added mood to the song so I guess in a way it worked out in that aspect too did you do the animation that made her and the backdrop too?! it was stunning. love it

Thanks! Yep, I did all the 3D animation and effects, directed the film shoot. A friend created the city image, which I animated also.

This video was very much about setting up a mood, glad it was you rkind of mood

It was fantastic, I abasolutely adore you character! She had so much detail and smooth movement and was really realistic. The technique was just phenomenal. But yes I enjoyed the video/music C:

You got some great cinematic moments here and some excellent CG work as well. It did, however, begin to feel a little repetitive near the middle. Most music videos (if you can call this something so simple) have cutaway shots to a story involved in the song. You did that a little bit near the end with the beautiful space-time visuals and stuff, but I didn't get that connection until after I read the synopsis, so you might want to include more of a constant connection and reference back to that throughout. Overall stunning though Not something I could do haha.

Thanks man! I appreciate the comments - this is definitely a world/story I'd like to explore further, but the approach we decided on was making it feel like a "live jam" (in fact, the footage was recorded while Module was in the recording studio) and so it has that straight-forward performance feel. Normally I do things much more narrative, but this was a refreshing change.

Cheers!

Yeah, I gotcha. I definitely agree with you about exploring the world of this further though because it's really interesting. I feel like you could make an entire Feature based on it even because there's so much potential there.
