Description Was babysitting my brothers today, and the Secret of NIMH was still in the tape player, so I decided to try and find some good freeze frames to try and draw. I came across this frame, and decided to draw it! Then I scanned it, and decided to add color! I'm very very pleased with how it turned out.

I'm extremely frustrated with the fact that, it was ginormous (over 2500 pixels wide as I recall), but I ended up accidentally saving over the big psd after I shrunk it and saved it for posting here. Oh well. It's still reasonably sized, and should print well. I'm going to try and get this printed nicely for my portfolio.

Justin and the Secret of NIMH do not belong to me, they belong to Don Bluth. This art belongs to me though, and I'm really happy about that

Thanks!

The movie and book were both great! I'm reading the sequel, written by the original author's Daughter. It's called "Racso and the Rats of NIMH." It's really good so far. I'm about half way through it.

Thanks! It's a pity you don't remember Justin. You can probably tell, he's my favorite character, a minor character in the movie though he be. He's an all around super-cool swashbuckling captain of the gaurd. He's the rat that defeats the villain, Jenner, in a really cool sword fight towards the end of the movie. He also has the best character introduction I have ever seen in the history of movies Anyhow, you ought to watch it again, and keep an eye peeled for him

Yeah, I know I haven't seen it for a real long time, because I remember the bloodshed in the movie scaring me. I must have still been a kid. Secret Of Nimph is clearly not a kiddie movie, and I'd really like to get myself a copy. I wish there were more movies like it...I'm tired of movies/shows with furries always being geared at kids only.

RedRodent In reply to tails-sama [2007-07-10 02:30:49 +0000 UTC]

I watched it as a kid, and initially was scared of it too, even though there were scenes that I really liked. Hmm, well it is a kid movie, even though there is bloodshed. I really was impressed, seeing the movie, with the bloodshed (now) and realizing that the bloodshed impresses on one that the conflict is THAT much more important. (Beauty and the Beast had blood in it too ) These kinds of movies, with morals, real conflict, good vs evil, and real prices that the characters pay are important for young kids to view, in my opinion. Gets them examples of good morals in action (and bad, being defeated by good), heroes to admire, and fun times to enjoy with the family. I'd recommend you see some more Don Bluth films. You'd probably like "Anastasia," (A classic, very good, had the best villain's musical number I ever saw) and the original "All Dogs Go to Heaven."

All dogs go to heaven may seem like a really kids oriented movie on the first look. It has some fun kid oriented songs and musical numbers, but overall, it's got a really clear and serious message, and is not just for kids. It does have violence. It's very well written, and had adult themes, but was still a cartoon, and geared for both adults and kids to enjoy. I haven't seen Don's other films, but I'm sure they're good too.

So yeah! There are two movies you can go see! Oh, and Robin Hood, and The Great Mouse Detective were great. The Great Mouse Detective was probably Disney's most dark film. A good one, that was. I'm done ranting now! That was fun!! I love animation movies

Those are some very good points, if a child doesn't mind a little blood, these are very good movies for them.

I remember all dogs go to heaven, that was a really good one. But I don't think I've yet seen Anastasia or The great Mouse Detective. So I'll have to keep an eye for those. ^^

The Secret of NIMH is a great movie. The second one is meh, but I remember watching the first one as a kid and loved it. (furry yay, lol)

If I can recall, this is a frame from when he's pushing the boat along that little river thing? Justin is my favorite character. (justin is his name right? xD)

I gotta do some fanart sometime. But I got a long to-do list. xD

RedRodent In reply to Temiree [2007-07-09 23:28:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah You got it all right!

I abhored the second movie. I think perhaps I liked it at first, too, when I was little, but later, I realized how dumb it was. I did like how they portrayed Brutus

Fan art is tons of fun, and great practice I need to get on more, myself.
