Description I watched The Secret of NIMH on tv the other day and remembered what a great movie it was! i had forgotton how much i liked it. I love all of Don Bluth's films. his animation style is really beautiful. so i made these portraits of Justin, my FAVORITE character.

If i were a rat, i'd marry him. LOL!!

NIMH was one of those rare cases where I prefer the movie to the book.
Although the book does have more back story and really makes you apreciate the character of Johnathan Frisby (Brisby in the movie for some reason).
Justin is awesome. Did you know? His voice actor went on to be the original voice of Stoker in the 'Biker Mice From Mars' cartoon! Lol, he went from playing a heroic rat who saves mice to playing a heroic mouse who kicks evil rat butt. ^_^

LOL, I dont know why they changed Frisby to Brisby...Frisby sounds fine to me. I love The voice actor of Justin! I read that he named one of his sons after his rat character, which i thought was awesome of him...

The reason why they changed from Frisby to Brisby is copyright issues with Wham-O, people who manufacture frisbees. Hope this answers your question. And I think it's bulls**t that Wham-O didn't allow Don Bluth to use the name Frisby. I mean, what the f**k?!

Question: What program/tool do you use for shading? I ask only because the shading is a /little/ blotchy in places, which distracts me from the gorgeousness of the rest of the piece.

I'm so glad you like it!! Justin is so AWESOME!

I use Jasc paint shop pro 8. its not a very good program and it does have problems. i also have to do all my work with a mouse, which is like drawing with a bar of soap, but its all i've got! i'll hopefully be getting some new programs and equipment for christmas!

LOL, I know exactly what you mean. Though you can do some good stuff with a mouse. (Bar of soap comparison is brilliant, though...) The wacom tablet is expensive, but so very awesome. X.x They usually come with Corel Essentials or some kind of art program included in the package, which is partly why it's so much cash.

i agree that the movie is Don bluth's masterpiece, and justin too is my favorite character, same to Mrs. Brisby, and her childrens too. Your art is really awesome, you really catch justin's personality right.

This came out great, esecially his facial expression. I love that movie to death! The book is one of the awesomest things I ever read. I think a CGI version will be coming out in a few years.
