Thank you! It's hard to believe, but this one was done some years ago...maybe I should take a crack at another BAA piece, since I love the manga so much...
(Now, if they could get cracking on the long-gestating movie, I will be VERY happy!)

Thanks! I had a great time working on it, since BAA was (well, still is) one of my favorite titles.
Granted, the picture is about six years old, but I do think about trying to work on another one. When that will happen....I dunno.
Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for James Cameron to work on the film!
Thanks again!

Cameron still has BAA on his mind, but...there will be a wait.
He says more here: [link]
So, there is hope. We'll see!

Thanks!
As for LAST ORDER...I believe that it is still being released in the US (Vol 14 is due out this month, according to Amazon! However, in Japan, the manga was been put on hold, but Kishiro has decided to resume work on it. I'm not too keen on the details, but a bit of searching will certainly uncover news about LO...
Hope this helps!

haha, decided to stop being lazy and searched for it. Thanks.
Why do you think they dont want psycho on the magazine? Its seems rather pointless to me.
According to Manga creator Yukito Kishiro, his Battle Angel Alita: Last Order (GUNNM: Last Order) manga is on hiatus since the 100th installment. This is due to a disagreement between Kishiro and the editor of Shueisha's Ultra Jump magazine. The editor want Kishiro not to use the word "psycho" in dialogue

That's a good question...my guess (and it's only a guess, so take it with a VERY large grain of salt, as they say) is that it's more of a cultural thing, or at the very least the editor was afraid of someone or some group being offended.
Of course, the real reason my be a pretty complex or rather simple thing. Either way, it's just another unfortunate incident of editorial vs. artistic intent, which goes on on both sides of the Pacific. At the risk of sounding a bit long-winded, something similar happened to me while I was writing for a book on superheroes. My editor asked me to re-write one of my entries because what I had written could have offended certain people. I had not meant for the entry to be offensive, yet those few words could have stood out like the proverbial red flag to some. but I also saw that she did have a valid point, so I changed it.

Yeah, it does make sense but i just cant imagine that much trouble for something so simple.
I was thinking and it may have been a corporation leash tactic that backfired on them, hence the apology he requested to stay.
Anyway, i read yukito is trying to take gunnm to kodansha(one of the other magazines) so its not that bad (i was afraid it would go to limbo like so many other stories).

Yeah, definitely one of the best...although I'm praying that Jim Cameron _finally_ gets to work on the movie (I mean, after AVATAR's success, the man can do anything he wants, plus they've already got a year's worth of pre-production work on BA...)

Unfortunately it seems that [censored] "greatly respected" mr. Cameron is seriously going to make another one AVATAR and not Alita. Although, considering AVATAR was quite disappointing in terms of plot and, well, sense, maybe its for better.
But its really unfair cos he obviously has bought the Rights for production and now nobody can make a screen adaptation of the story, none but himself.

RedShoulder In reply to Hinoe465 [2010-02-22 16:59:47 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I did hear that...nearly ground my teeth to dust in frustration. However, all isn't lost. I then read that one of AVATAR's producers did confirm that Cameron's film _after_ AVATAR 2 will be BATTLE ANGEL. Also, Cameron still drops BA at times during interviews, and there was more than a year's worth of pre-production work done on BA.
AVATAR 2 will probably take much less time to make than the first film because the tech is already there. BATTLE ANGEL will most likely benefit from that tech as well. Granted, while he does own the rights (which means no one else will be able to make an adaptation of BA), I would prefer that Cameron make the film in the end.
Hell, it took him over ten years to make AVATAR. Most movies spend several years in "development hell" before they are ever made. Examples include IRON MAN, SPIDER-MAN,
I,ROBOT, I AM LEGEND, THE PUPPET MASTERS (based on Robert A. Heinlien's novel), and RIVERWORLD. Granted, some films may work and some won't--witness the 1998 GODZILLA film.
Ironically, it was Del Toro who introduced Cameron to the BATTLE ANGEL manga, since Del Toro is a huge manga and anime fan, as well as being a close friend to Cameron. And while it would be interesting to see BA directed by Del Toro, he's getting ready to make THE HOBBIT.
Hang in there! It may take time, but there will be BA movie on the horizon...it will just take time to get there. Maybe five to six years, but...I'm willing to wait. We'll see!

Im waiting with you, actually I was glad that Cameron had bought the rights - his previous works were highly professional and entertaining. But now(after that firework on Pandora) im staring to doubt if his vision of Battle Angel can be something different from mindless eye-candy-ish meat grinder. Of course Alita should be an action movie, but to overlook the serious dramatic components of the story would be a awful mistake. Gali is not Jake Sally, hope he understands this.
PS Interesting info about Del Toro being an initiator of the matter.. Didnt know, thanX.

Good point about Gally not being Jake...(well, she looks nothing like Sam Worthington ). Cameron does write very strong female characters for all of his films, even those he does not direct (like Mace in STRANGE DAYS). Also, he did not write BATTLE ANGEL himself; there was a co-writer, and both had to write multiple drafts before something concrete emerged.
That said, I also agree that a live-action BA should not be an eye-candy orgy only.
The info about Del Toro shocked me when I read it, but in the new book THE FUTURIST, which covers Cameron's life and movie career, it's revealed that he and Del Toro have known each other for many years, going as far back as the early 1990s when Del Toro was putting together CHRONOS. If you can find THE FUTURIST, get it and read it. It's a solid book, and it does not view Cameron through rose-colored lenses.

live action movie is going to come out.
It is going to be about Battle Angel.
James Cameron is going to be the Director of the movie.
He is the one who directed the " The Terminator, T2, Aliens, and Titanic (1997)"
but don't know when

Yeah, Cameron has been interested in making a live-action BA film for several years now.
Personally, that could be the best thing to happen, since Alita is cut from the same mold as Cameron's female heroes--and JC is damned good at creating strong female characters (ALIENS, T2, the list goes on...).
However, Cameron had to choose which to start first--BA or AVATAR. He went with AVATAR, and that's wrapping up now. If anything, he would use the technologies and techniques he had on AVATAR to make a live-action BA film.
Like you said, don't know when that will happen, so the best thing to do is keep our fingers crossed!!
