The first thing I'd like to say about this episode is: am I the only one who realizes Marty looks like the Monkey King from Jackie Chan Adventures? Secondly: HOLY SHIT! They finally did the thing with Greg and Pearl! The thing with the relationships and the sex and the love and the existentialism! To the naked eye, this may seem like another fool and his money plotline like what SpongeBob SquarePants did in the atrocity episode "Porous Pockets", but that's far from the truth! Greg may be a beach bum, but I assure you he isn't as stupid as me to burn through 10 million dollars!

The first thing I'm glad Greg did with his money was an epic road trip to the big city; more specifically, Empire City, which looks nothing like the hellhole seen in Infamous and Infamous 2. And like some of the best episodes of Steven Universe, this one is a musical done in the style of 1940’s Broadway with a dash of rock! I seriously think this episode could've been used as a Disney movie of some sort or a short. Sure, a father-son trip has been done before, but this time around, they brought along Pearl for the ride, and it ain't just because she was the only one available. Like the episode "Keystone Motel", this is an emotional roller coaster.

If you know anything about this show beyond lesbian space rocks, you'll know about Rose Quartz's death and how Pearl was very clingy towards her, always condescending to Greg especially after Steven was born. It's not that she HATES Greg, but she can't help but feel somewhat apprehensive towards the guy after Rose left the Crystal Gems and became Steven in a sense. They are NOT subtle about Pearl having romantic feelings for Rose; they just don't outright say it, but even a child can see it, unless, of course, you're Ash Ketchum. I love that Steven wanted Pearl to come with him and Greg to the big city for this experience, not just for the new sights and sounds, but in the hopes that they can finally get along after what happened; on the surface, it's very stupid idea, but Steven has this magic in him that can just make it all work out. He's like the perfect emotional therapist when it comes to the Crystal Gems and his father.

And the songs? HOLY HELL, YES! Each one of them lines up with some of the best in the entire show, and each one makes it into my top 10, though nothing Donald Trumps peace and love! "It’s Over, Isn’t It?" comes remarkably close though as my second favorite song of the show, toppling "Stronger Than You" and "Something Entirely New". And yes, I did notice during Steven's song that Greg looked like Homer Simpson. He's more or less the best father in animation and how a bumbling dad SHOULD be done! Take notes, Family Guy, maybe you can save yourselves some day! NOT! All in all, this hasn't just proven itself among my absolute favorite episodes of the show, but a landmark in how you do development through a musical and showing that time heals all wounds, no matter how deep and emotional with just a little help.
