Description

A simple band ring, 12017. Hammer forged over a tapered mandrel with frequent re-heating to anneal and soften the metal. Material is Nordic gold: 5% Zn + 5% Al + 1% Sn, balance Cu. Dimensions: 20.5 mm inner, 6.7 mm height, avg. 1.3 mm thick. Initial brushed finish (left) achieved with 400 grit silicon carbide sandpaper. Current bright-burnished patina (right) naturally worn-in from some years' use. Slight corrosion intermittently left a faint green tinge on finger.
