I liked it! I've been in a bit of an art slump lately, like I forgot how to draw. I'll definitely try this method out.

This is just great. since i'm an absolute beginner i was sure that i wont be able to do even one pose properly. but i tried it and it really works out for me. of course i still suck at doing all these positions and i dont see everythings thats inside the body with my inner eye. but this just gave me a big motivation boost. thanks reiq-sama ^__^

so you say you use image references but in the video were all of those from you imagination? They are really well done! I wish I could sketch stuff like that.

Buenas, Reiq!

I have never seen anyone start off with the torso before. I think I might have to try that out and see how it works. I love the fluidity of your work. Thanks for taking the time to make this!

Very interesting video and technique; I never thought of starting from the torso, and I end up stressing a lot about head and body position because I tend to start from the shoulders and try to perfect everything at once and one part of the body at a time - thanks for reminding me that a sketch and a warm-up is but that, haha. Very useful c: Thanks~

Zetsubou-Ninja [2013-12-11 02:48:54 +0000 UTC]

idk like I love your style and you have great grasp on proportions but a lot of your women are just anatomically incorrect. For example theres a lot of images in your gallery where the perspective in which you pose the women shouldn't allow us to see some things but we end up seeing it anyway because you subscribe to boobs and butt posing. In skill you far surpass me so I'm no pro talking here, but I just find it interesting that you have such an amazing grasp on proportions but not necessarily anatomy.

MattRIllustration In reply to Zetsubou-Ninja [2013-12-11 09:31:54 +0000 UTC]

It's mostly the fact that breasts sell, and bigger breasts sell even more. You can see from other sections of Reiq's gallery that he is very good at drawing realisticly proportioned people. Of course when you're a professional you have to do the work that sells best.

Zetsubou-Ninja In reply to MattRIllustration [2013-12-12 09:26:39 +0000 UTC]

yeah thats what i was saying. His people (women) are so fantastically proportioned but then you have weird anatomical errors like reiq.deviantart.com/art/Rogue-…

like how does one sit with a straight back and pelvis but still tilt their butt so you can view both cheeks and both breasts when her rib cage is clearly in profile but her breasts are in 3/4 view. If you follow the spine it makes no sense. It's 'minor' i suppose because we are so used to seeing the boobs and butt pose we no longer register it as incorrect, but for an artist that referencing real models you would think he just wouldn't do it.

Ever seen anime? You're telling me that is anything even remotely anatomically correct? It is a matter of style, and there are hundreds of styles that one can adopt.

Zetsubou-Ninja In reply to MBNaveed [2013-12-11 06:43:09 +0000 UTC]

*copy and pasted from a different reply*
I think theres a difference between stylistic exaggeration of limbs vs unintentional exaggeration. for example You have shows like Edd Ed  n Eddy. Their limbs bend like noodles and can be literally flattened. But you wouldn't comment on it because everything else fits, they are meant to be outlandish, nothing about them is really realist at all. But when you have an artist like reiq who draws realistic style pinups, you can't really attribute it to style choice. If you watch a cartoon like Edd Ed n Eddy and they get tied in a knot together, its normal. But if you watch a show like Batman and all of a sudden his body starts doing things as if he was in an Edd Ed n Eddy universe, you would be like wtf, arms have elbows. Deciding to draw semi-realistic is a style choice. Defying anatomic ability so that you can see the underside of a girls ass while looking at the top of her breasts is not. It's just interesting because watching him practice gestures and talk about using real life references, many of his artwork show women doing things average people can't physically do (no i'm not talking about laser beams) i'm talking about the contorting of the spine so that you can get tit and ass cleavage within one picture and one subject.

Part of some anime style drawing is bigger eyes and stylized drawing of other features. But if you watch sailor moon and her arm bends backwards you are going to note that as an anatomical mistake not a style choice. Style choices encompass certain things. It is obvious Reiq does not draw within the type of style that would neglect anatomical correctness.
