Description Someone once told me I had a knack for trees. While I don't want to judge that, I can surely agree on that I do love to draw and paint stuff with trees.
Whether I'm good at it or not, the sky and trees/plants are always very soothing and also fun to do, maybe because it's something so ordinary and plain, yet so full of possibilities.

Anyway. This is a roughly 2-hour-painting, dabbling into Corel Painter IX (yes, I finally upgraded from Procreate Painter 7) experimenting with the Oil Pastells tool, which is quite a powerful instrument as far as I can tell by now.

No reference used.

Your "knack" for drawing trees is rather there because you did not use a reference. My teacher always tells me, "Look pictures of trees." LOL cuz my trees suck like ugly, long dresses (cuz they look like skirts)

Keep experimenting

Very nice! It makes me want to start getting into backrounds again. I've been doing backrounds behind people's backs for a while on and off. Mainly because suck at perspective. It's nice to see peices like these that make me want to do it again.

You have, got the trees to a T. I think the trick is getting the branches to look like they're naturally flowing out of the trunk. It's a tuff thing to master, I used to be awful at it.

Ahhhhh, they are most beautiful trees - I love the texture of their varying bark. I wouldn't mind walking down that path... unless I had my giant book-filled backpack on and had already walked ages, but that's an entirely different story. XD

you have the same approach to trees I do - you do individual leaves... (ok, thats a rather common way of doing it, but a lot of ppl also just do trees with a straight trunk and what looks like a green bubbly cloud on top)

very nice

I tried to keep it rather simple and colorful, expanding my boundries a little. There's still so much to learn, but my confidence is always growing

Also, thanks.
Well, maybe it is true - maybe it is because organics don't need too specified forms and not so clean rendering to look nice, heh. (Yeah, I'm a slack mostly)

Lilyoftheflames In reply to Remainaery [2006-12-04 16:13:23 +0000 UTC]

haha, yeah, that's true, but they also call for specific details in color rendering....at least when you look at them close up. From far away, its just a shadow stick XD

Shadowy sticks - hey, that's a positive aspect when you need to fill an image with lots of foilage and wood xD
