Description Ivalice Monster Compendium Entry#19

The second breed of dragon in Ivalice, the Ice Drake is a rarer creature than its fire breathing cousin and often more deadly. The Ice Drake dwells in locals with large bodies of water. Ulei River, and Uladon Bog are known territories of Ice Drakes. The reason for this choice of habitat is simple, Ice Drakes are adapted to life under water and swimming comes as easily to them as breathing. Using their wings as exotic flippers, Ice Drakes propel themselves through the watery depths of their territories, some of which span for miles in every direction. Their hide is tough and resisilant but also flexible and smooth, to reduce water resistance. Their tails act as rudders with which they propel themselves and change direction.

Ice Drakes are ambush predators. Unlike the Fire Wyrm, which hunts down its prey with relentless tenacity, the Ice Drake perfers a more subtle approach. Ice Drakes have scales of deep azure blue that allow them to blend in with water often around them; this conceals them from wary eyes on the surface. An Ice Drakes MO usually goes as follows: The Ice Drake will swim with its eyes above the water and scout for prey on land. If it spots an oppurtunity it will sink back down and swim toward its prey. Once its within striking distance, it will suddenly lunge out of the water and bite the prey's neck, at which point it will drag the prey under and drown it. If its hunting prey of the swimming variety, the Ice Drake has an interesting tactic. It will bury itself in the water bed with only its horn exsposed. Running the cyronic energy that flows through its being to the horn, causes it to glow which attracts all manner of creatures to it. When they get too close and touch it, the energy freezes them and the Ice Drake rises up and snatches the stunned victim.

When they are not hunting, Ice Drakes mostly keep themselves and tend to avoid civilization if possible. They are terroribly territorial like most of their kind however, and will seek to drive out anything that is large enough to be considered a threat. When facing such a threat, the Ice Drake brings all of its deadly power to bear. Using its powerful fore arms and vice like jaws, the Ice Drake can mangle and shred just about anything that stands before it. Being a tad lighter than its kin, the Ice Drake is better able to counter attacks made against it and does so at every opportunity. Its most powerful weapon of course is its breath. Those expecting a blast of scorching flame are utterly devastated when they find themselves facing a torrent of flesh shattering ice instead. The glowing single horn atop its head is the only warning before it turns its foes into ice sculptures with vapor so cold that Blizzaga seems like a summer time stroll in comparison. This power is not only for offensive purposes. Elder Ice Drakes are so intune with their element that they can channel this energy throughout their bodies. This ability, called Mighty Guard, creates a barrier just above the skin, making it tougher to damage. This effectively heightens the durability of user to its greatest extent save for spells like Protect and Shell.

Ice Drakes do not hunt humaniod prey often and when they do its normally out of desperation or anger. Ice Drakes usually dine on Ice Flans because of their natural abundance of cyronic energy and Lamias since they share similar territories occasionally. Its main diet is fish and its perfectly content on dining on them almost exclusively. If a clan ever needs to fend off one of these leviathons of the water, the best bet would be the use of fire magic. Their hides are susceptable to being burnt. However using magic of the ice element will only make them that much stronger and actually heal them.

He was a major break through in my coloring abilities. That shade of blue can turn into all sorts of wonderful highlights and hues. He was a long but fun project to work on.

I wish I could do people without making them look like a ten year did it . But anyway thanks, too bad dragons are such a flooded market, and theres tons of people that can do dragons better than I can. It boggles my mind looking around here some times.

They're a flooded market 'cause they're interesting. A divine race as old as the angels and demons, but separate from either and revered by both.

I mention it since I talked to an art shop owner who sells tons of fantasy related stuff and he told me that dragons have been done to death and you really have to work hard to find a niche since everyone and their mother does dragons. He also told me the two niches that haven't really been before are trolls and gargoyles. This kinda shook me up a bit since one, I love doing dragons, and two, I've already been told being a free lance artist is a difficult field to get into and make a living at. Kinda kills the spirit a bit.

Cool, The coloring was some crazy new thing I tried. Instead of trying to keep everything in segmented cells, I went 'screw this' and just went at it like it was paint. The wings were my attempt to show water lighting .

metal mutant it's an old game (cause atari steem is an "old computer") but it was cool for someone who played it in the time...

this is the head which is mechanical a bit, and this anatomy and movement remind swamp creatures.
