Description

Livingston Hounds is proud to announce their long anticipated working Beagle litter!

After days of waiting and plenty of false-alarms, they'd finally arrived - within one day of one another! Shake was the first to whelp at the witching hour, her labor stretching into the morning. Meanwhile Copper, not to be outdone, took prime advantage of the situation to sneak away and whelp in a closet while we desperately searched for her. Sadly, this lead to the loss of one puppy (who may have been born still), but otherwise both moms were doing wonderfully!

Puppies were cleaned and weighed, and beds were moved around so someone could be with the puppies at all times. Though Copper had chosen to whelp elsewhere, she was ultimately moved into the warm whelping room in one of the other dura-boxes. Both ladies were quite amicable, but nevertheless we wanted to give each of them their own space to care for their pups. Their parenting styles seemed quite different from one another. While Shake seemed to dote on her puppies constantly, Copper took plenty of opportunities to leave the whelping box (though she'd always return and do a quick head count of her kids).

From there were days of vet trips to check the babes and moms, lots of bottles and puppy squeaks. It was all a blur of days until finally, the pups would be old enough to go onto their forever homes. Two would stay behind however. Which two was yet to be decided, but with such phenomenal working parents there would no doubt be a perfect puppy in each litter to continue their hunting legacy.

Random fun fact: "ops" is a term we used to use at the pet-store I worked at for fish that didn't survive the night (fish tanks had to be scooped before opening every day). They were called "ops" because they had the "opportunity" to live and didn't XD. I use this word instead of stillborn. It sounds less harsh to me.
