Wait a second, this looks familiar!...I go to Dallastown, and I love that they used your illustration for the Spring Art Show flyers. It's so beautiful I still have it hanging on my fridge! I'm so thankful I stumbled across your dA page. I loved your display at the show; your style is so whimsical, it never fails to make me smile. You have an incredible ability to make your imagination come to life!

haha, I love finding other people from school on here; that's so much fun. And thank you so much! I loved how the flyers came out.

Nice poses and faces, would like to see where the stem begins that the guy with the glasses has his foot on... I would like to see him with four arms ,,, more fun!

It may be hard to see, but he does have four arms! And that stem does look kind of weird, doesn't it? I was trying to keep it a diamond-ish shape because it was going to be turned into a flyer. Thank you for your comment and suggestions! they are always appreciated.

Right, so I can't list everything I love about this picture simply because that would include every single element of it. ^^ That being said, let me say:

First, the style. The cross-hatching and stripes and such is charming and perfect. It's so, so storybook I almost can't express it.

I love that not only is Mrs. Bee beautifully done (her cheeks and sleeves especially make me smile), but she really does look buoyant, like flying and bumbling is how she spends her life.

Somehow the way the black bit of the butterfly stops around the face and makes it look like a human wearing a butterfly costume makes perfect sense and makes it even more perfect. It just works so well. Also, the wings are fantastic. Both sets of wings in this picture look lifted from real creatures, which actually lends a lot to the fantasy.

The leaf-table and chairs are love. ^^ I love the way the old one is reclining. I just love him: the fact that both his left arms have teacups, his paunch, his clothing, his mustache, his large nose and his small glasses. He's the old professor to a T.

Just- every detail of this is so beautifully done that I can't stop looking at it. You've done it again, my dear artist.

Aww, you are so sweet! Your comment made me smile on this sad little rainy day. It makes my heart sore to think that someone would take the time to look at all the little details, so I appreciate it immensly.

(Just a little secret, I think I'm going to be painting more bugs! They're just way too much fun. My family is somewhat packrat-ish, and half of our garage is piled high with old wood scraps and things which are so much fun to go through. I recently found a couple of old shelves from a little bookshelf I have in my room. So I've cleaned them up and I'm thinking a diptych with tons of little flying things! So let's hope all goes well in the painting process.)

Yowza! Another style shift... I mustn't blink while watching your art, I'll miss something.

She is such a proud hostess.

Is it really different from the rest of my stuff? I'll be honest, I'm completely blind from such changes, but I am curious.

ErnestAbacus In reply to Reowyn [2008-05-03 16:07:20 +0000 UTC]

The faces are distinct. Although I am starting to wonder if the differences I see are more because of what you choose to put on dA and less because of your style shifting.

Yes that makes sense. I don't really post everything here. One of the main reasons I really like to keep this online gallery is so that I can see how I'm changing and how my art has changed. it's fun.

You are amazing! My favorite part is with the Butterfly's arms. They are both shaded, but you can distinguish between them.

Do you want to be an illustrator?

Reowyn In reply to razuberii [2008-05-03 12:23:18 +0000 UTC]

I don't know anymore. I'm not going into the illustration major next year in college like I thought I would want to do, just studio art. I don't like the digital aspect of it all. So I'm not sure yet.

razuberii In reply to Reowyn [2008-05-03 22:01:53 +0000 UTC]

Well, digital isn't the only way to go with Illustration. I'm applying to my school's Illustration program next year. I saw a gallery of the graduating class. It was mostly ink, pencil and paint. My school's program has a split for Traditional Illustration and Animation. I'm the same, I want the traditional way. I like feeling the strokes.

It's up to you though what you major in. You have great talent.

Reowyn In reply to razuberii [2008-05-04 21:26:54 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the school I really wanted to go to has a graphics-only illustration program. I would die if it had ink, pencil, and paint in that major here. but it doesn't.

omigosh I love this so much! I swear every time I see your work it brings up those childhood memories where I plagued the public library with my ORD. (Obsessive Reading Disorder ). It's the reason I 'friended' you. I love being reminded that its okay to day dream and reminisce too much. I think your art does that, its so wistful and sentimental

*yea I know my comments are slightly long-winded but I just have to speak the truth*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Reowyn In reply to zwazoa [2008-04-29 20:22:37 +0000 UTC]

haha, I think my art may be a result of my early-aged ORD problem. And don't be silly-- I thank you for all of your support and thoughtful comments.
