Description

With the exiled American Founding Fathers stoking revolutionary flames in France, Europe takes a different path than the one we see in OTL. With the American republican experiment a marked failure, French and American leaders look instead toward England for inspiration. Cromwell's Protectorate in the British Isles is seen as the only viable alternative to monarchy. With France under General Napoleon Bonaparte winning impressive victories across Europe, it was only a matter of time before the beheaded French king was joined by a dozen German princes. Fearing for his life, Francis II, Holy Roman Emperor and leader of Austria, fled and abandoned his Empire to the revolutionaries. It's unknown to this day if he survived.
The Bonaparte-Jefferson New Order saw Europe reorganised as the Commonwealth of Europe, a loose confederation of states all recognising Napoleon as their Lord Protector. By 1810, Jefferson envisioned a pan-European parliament to debate matters of continental importance--as well as a combined military to eventually liberate the rest of Europe.
Napoleon did not share Jefferson's eagerness to embrace parliamentarism, but eventually relented. "Individuals of significant merit" were appointed from all over Europe to meet in Paris. Those who were more aligned with Napoleon found themselves on the right side of the chamber. The Jeffersonians, who rallied behind Jefferson's idea to implement a massive land reappropriation scheme, essentially giving every family a farm, were seated on the left.
A constitution for this new European Commonwealth is well on its way to being drafted. Will Napoleon's desire for aristocracy continue to rule Europe as monarchy in everything but name, or will Jefferson's radical agrarianism be the law of the land?
This is a sequel (or prequel?) to two of my earlier maps, The British American Empire , and The Cisleithanian Protectorate of Austria-Bohemia . I will continue this universe soon enough.
