The original dragon is made with clay (I forget which kind I used for this one, but I use all kinds). I had the egg shell made first; it was "turned" on a wheel by a professional pattern maker ( that is how they make masters for things like lamp bases and urns and stuff like that) to my drawing.
Then a mold is made on the sculpture and the whole thing was reproduced in solid gypsum.

The hardest part was getting the eggshell realistically textured! That took a lot of very careful "pecking"
