The way you render griffons (with or without schmarming) is beautiful and without peer. Those feather textures are to die for. You do them so well it's actually making me want to draw them again, after I stopped drawing them over ten years ago... Hilariously, I had a recurring theme with them where they had white plumage and pale pink legs somewhat like this one, and of course with the skill of a 12-year old.

Β Thank you! I cheat any way I can.
In photo shop there are a couple ways to cheat on rendering feathers, one way is to draw one nice feather and repeatedly copy and paste it, overlapping the previous copy... he he
Β Another way is to use the lasso tool to select a feather contour on a solid area, invert the selection and use the burn tool to shade around it. Makes the outline of the feather pop out, without resorting to drawing a line around the edge of each feather.

Hey, from the very beginning artists have always found that by using their tools cleverly, they can make workarounds and shortcuts any way they can. Path of least resistance after all. "Cheating" is such a strong word, haha!
That's actually a really awesome bit of process and technique there. See, you're still using the tools you're just...making it quicker and easier on yourself! I work entirely in traditional though; my tricks and shortcuts are a bit different. Like covering half the paper in graphite powder and then just "lifting" the detail and form with an eraser instead of drawing and shading it all out, hah.

I used to do that, but using an electric eraser. You just brrrrrrr off the graphite. I also used an erasing shield to get sharp edges and shapes.

Electric erasers are great for that sort of stuff I gotta say. Kneaded erasers are what I usually use and are great for creating form and highlights. I used part of an old plastic expired gift card as a shield for a very long time before it kind of died after a while, heh.

You schmarm very well. (May I shwoink that term for personal use, please?) Personally, I'd call it great painting, but what do I know. I really haven't figured out how to use the smudge tool. Love the lighting.

It's like using pastels, you just put a stripe od color down, take the digital finger and smear the color around.
Β One of these days I will learn to really paint. That is something I never could "get".

I suppose that you could call him 'Merv Griffin', but that might be showing our age around these kids...
Well, call me dense, but I finally realized that I have a three-piece dragon set of yours from ages ago. I can't really say when for certain, but I'm tempted to say at least 20 years ago (you were what, 12 at that time?) back when I really was a kid and first going as a guest to conventions. There as a dragonette, a reclining adult and a seated adult in the set, all in the same golds and reds. If there is any info on the bottom then it was covered in felt bases long ago. At one time they sat on my monitor, back in the days when a 21 inch Sony Trintron monitor has a massive glass tube, weighed as much as a golden retriever and cost as much as a high-end computer with monitor costs now.

Really?? That's really amazing!
Β We've been selling those dragons for...uh...about 30 years now.
Yeah, they would have grey felt on the bottom if they are real ones ( there were, and stillΒ are, many fakes around)
