Description Can you imagine the noise he is making? This is a very bad tempered candle holder. The light from a votive candle shines through his red glass eyes and through his open mouth.
This was a special ebay piece but we normally sell these in "stone" finish.

From these angles I can't see where the candles access to oxygen how do you prevent the candle going out?

Oh! I thought so! Yeah I've been working on a project myself similar to this, do you glue them in with epoxy? Or is there some other way to get them to fit?

Reptangle In reply to Samkoolkid14 [2011-11-04 05:40:23 +0000 UTC]

We just use white glue.

They don't melt from the candle heat?

Reptangle In reply to Samkoolkid14 [2011-11-04 16:54:08 +0000 UTC]

No, no danger of that. The candle is in a glass votive holder, and that is held securely in the sculpture about 2 1/2 inches away from the eyes.If you design something like this, use a glass candle holder inside the sculpture, and be sure nothing overhangs the candle area.

We buy glass eyes and paint them ourselves, but you can get eyes like these from Van Dyke's taxidermy supply. They are the bird eyes called "wood carver eyes" [link]

If you want eyes that aren't glass, there are places that make gorgeous acrylic eyes. Look at these! [link]

That's really interesting, is the votive inserted in the back or the head or something? You really can't tell from the front or profile, which is pretty cool in itself. I love it when characters have a definite sound to them (I have a snowshoe who looks and acts like a duchess but sounds like a firetruck being put through a wood chipper when she's mad)
