Description I felt like painting this vampire bat like a puppy. I think it is cute. He is about 3 inches tall and wears a royal purple ribbon set with a jeweled medallion, like all real vampires.
This is a casting of my original sculpture produced ( usually in normal brown bat color) by Windstone Editions.

When I was helping my hubby, he was cutting a tree down for a client, we didn't know it was full of baby bats. So he hollered at me and I started the rescue mission to save as many as possible. I don't know why people think they are ugly, I think they are adorable. I managed to save most of the babies though some were beyond help. makes me feel better to have helped the ones I could. I love this sculpture and would love to learn it as well

I had no idea you did vampire bats! I might have to save up for an albino one if they come back in stock. I love this one, too. It's so cute with those markings.

This is so adorable! I utterly love the detail here, and the focus/hue of the colors are really brought out by the veins/attention to the fur on the bat itself! You did an excellent job capturing that "puppy" feel also with the pose and those adorable round eyes! Wonderful work and I'd adopt him from the shelter any day!

I think they may be sold out at the moment, but we are still producing them. I will have more made and put 'em into our online store soon.
Here is a link if you would like to see the Windstone shop: [link]

We are having trouble keeping all the designs stocked!

Oh, I've been to your site and drooled all over it. If I had the space, I'd have all the dragons, all the gryphons, more than one hippocampus, bats, and several others. As it is, I own around ten or so. I have the pegasus family, the flion, two small flapcats (one bat, one bird), the protoceratops egg, the unicorn family, a brown dragon, a green female dragon, and various others....

BTW, some years ago, I wrote and told you about someone who was making fridge magnets using a tracing of the protoceratops. I'd forgotten all about that until just now....

I didn't know you had my things too! Gad, no wonder you are out of room.
So...you collect minerals and fossils too?

Oh lordy. I have a few trilobites, a fossil fish, a dinosaur track (chicken-sized dinosaur called a saltopus), dugong bone, other various and sundry. As for minerals, (breathy sigh), we collected our own before we inherited a collection so we have lots. I was going to gem and mineral shows and buying just blue ones for awhile, so one shadow box has all blue colored stones. We also have a few items that are measurable with a geiger counter, and I also have a collection of stone spheres of different kinds.

Oh, and for many years, we used to take metal detectors to upper Michigan and go copper hunting. We have baskets of nuggets.

Then there's the agates, thompsonites, fossil corals, and other bits we've collected off the shores of Lake Superior...

I don't think I've yet mentioned that I also have a collection of feathers. If you haven't seen the tail feathers of the Argus pheasant, you NEED to. They are GORGEOUS.[link] I have a huge matched pair. I also have fistfuls of parrot feathers, duck feathers, goose feathers, and many varieties of other pheasant feathers. Not to mention the usual collection of odds and ends found out in the yard...

Packrats, yes. Add that to all the art supplies....Heh. Nice to know I'm not the only one.

And let's just say that I'm OCD about arranging things, and "black holing" stuff....

Do you live pets??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

M-Skirvin In reply to Reptangle [2011-07-12 22:35:17 +0000 UTC]

I have two "rescue" cats. They are my fur-children. Both are black cats, one male one female. The female is Newt, named for Newton Falls, Ohio where she was found as a kitten. The male is Joules Verne, "joule" being a measure of electrical power, and thus it's a play on the author Jules Verne. Our two previous kitties, sadly passed away, were: female, Ripley, named for Ellen Ripley in the movie ALIENS. She was a grey striper. The male, Shadey, was also black, and his full name was Nightshade.

In the past I've had a variety of pets. I have had horses, ponies, dogs, gerbils, hamsters, mice, snakes, birds, and then the wild ones: a raccoon and a melanistic fox squirrel named Mr. Dizzy. The squirrel lived to be 12 years old!! Amazing for a squirrel.
