Description Had this little guy on hold for his owner's vacation but finally done and so excited to show! This was my very first pair of hand painted eyes that have the "follow me" quality high scale fur suitors often employ. These eyes are epxoy stickers, but I will be upgrading to genuine clear resin I cast myself very very soon (and may sell commissions for eyes if there is interest!) I really love how he came out, since I was asked to do brown tones, matte, and no sparkle which are all things I am notorious for drowning in LOL As always, commissions open!

Also: special thanks to for sharing some amazing fur scraps with me, it will be leading to me purchasing better fur for my dolls in the very near future!

Sure! I will have a look at her creations.Β

I'm gonna get wire tomorrow. It'll be aluminum wire, though. Maybe I don't get the translation of steel hanging wire right (I'm from Germany ^^ ). I asked a guy at an art shop and told him that it's called steel hanging wire in english and he knew what I meant, but that wire he showed me was flexible and braided. O.o It behaved just like a necklace would do... So I'll get aluminum wire tomorrow instead. It's a bit thicker, but I hope it'll work just as fine as the thickness you mentioned in your tutorial.Β

Okay I'm sorry for the confusion, but you REALLY want the galvanized steel wire from a hardware store, the aluminum is nice for making a posing sculpture or reference figure but it will break a lot easier over daily wear and tear... plus getting it from an art store is going to cost you ten times as much! Β Trust me I would let you just do your thing on this matter but i'm trying to save you time and doll quality! Β I use this kind from a hardware store here in US: Β www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?p… maybe showing you will help the translation Β This is solid, they do make the braided stuff as well but I always use the solid. Oh wow. Thank you very much for that advice. That will save me a lot of time and trouble indeed! I though you mentioned not to use aluminum wire only cause of the higher price.Β

Awesome. I made a photo and will have a look at hardware stores tomorrow. They must have galvanized solid steel wire. Wish me luck. ^^ And thank you very much again. You're great.Β

No problem, in ours they are near the wall hooks and key creating stands Β

Oh wow, you won't believe it, but it's an odyssey. I checked websites of many hardware stores, visited stores and called stores that are further away. I asked for galvanized steel wire and the "answer" was: "WHAT DO YOU WANT?" X'D OMG, it can't be that special. You can get it at Walmart... I really hope that I don't annoy you, but does it matter if I use galvanized (electrochemical) or zinc-coated (hot-dip galvanization) wire? It must be the same in the end, just different ways to cover the steel with zinc.

I'll buy it online from America if it's really impossible to get it here...

And thanks a lot for referring me to . Her works are really great!

I don't "think" it matters, you might ask what she uses, she typically calls it gardening wire, I had to to find other options here in the states because our gardening wire has that green pastic coating that releases harmful gasses in the oven... I'm so happy you liked Zombiehun, she's a great friend

You won't believe it, but I found the wire. It's called "Verzinkter Stahl Draht" (zinced steel wire) here. But there's a english translation on the wire I bought an it says "galvanized steel wire". So I finally found it!Β

Thank you so much for all the help and tips and for being so patient with me! It's really much appreciated.

You're so nice. I'm sure to ask you, if I can't solve a special problem with my doll.

Exactly. Or you just send a german deviant to me and I can tell them exactly where I get the wire. ^^ Β

I've never worked with it, but all the dolls I see made of it are so beautiful!

Seki-Moshu In reply to Eviecats [2013-03-25 00:57:55 +0000 UTC]

Yea, only problem is I've been having a lot of trouble with mine, I dont want to use glue because of the shrinking problem so I'm wondering if maybe I used vegetable oil instead of water if that might work so it won't dry out as quickly and so it won't crack as much. What I do to dry them usually is turn my oven on, preheat it according to sculpey instructions then turn it off as soon as it's preheated and let the heat kinda dry it out evenly. Consistency is another thing I'm trying to get down too.

Now I don't know ANYTHING about this material mind you... BUT I do know that the best way to add some pliability to sculpey firm is to add some petrolium jelly (vasoline).... while I haven't tried it myself I have been assured by an expert it's baking safe, maybe that could help you? ^_^

I simply love the "Curious" facile expression! The eye's are Great, and the piece overall has a grand quality look about. Very life like!!
Though I cant help but laugh when I look at the next to last pic,as it looks as though it's playing dead....much like how our beagle does.
Great job Evie!!

Oh man, would you mind doing that? The only problem is that I'm not sure how soon I'd be able to pay you. (Still waiting on income tax returns, grrr. March 14 is my next not-for-rent paycheck, so I couldn't definitely put half down then for sure.)

I hate doing this because it makes me feel like a bad customer, but I'm just not going to be able to swing buying them right now. Between paying rent on my current place and putting a deposit down on my apartment for next year, it's going to be super tight on money for the rest of the school year. Someone else deserves a chance to buy your work; it's not fair for me to ask you to hold on to them for that long.

Oh okay I do understand, our refinancing took 4 months longer than we'd hoped, meaning we lost about 1200 bucks, so yeah.... unexpected crap certainly comes up!!!! D= Don't feel bad, and who knows, maybe they will still be around when you're in better shape ^_^

I found a company called "found objects" makes epoxy stickers that are for covering their blank pendant collection, I found them on ebay too, what I was the fur suiter's trick of painting the eye on the back of one sticker (rather than the flat back like most people do) and then you stick two stickers together back to back, (I FOUND IT VERY IMPORTANT TO PAINT THE STICKER DIRECTLY ON THE SHEET BC IF YOU PAINT THEM WHILE THEY ARE STUCK TOGETHER PAINT CAN SEEP IN BETWEEN THEM AND MAKE A MISERABLE MESS) I pressed them tightly together to remove any potential air bubbles and then touched up the edges with some clear nailpolish (in lue of resin) I will be moving on to pure clear resin versions of these eyes, but I am pretty happy with how these eyes turned out too, and are a good solution if you'd rather have flatter eyes that still look realistic! ^_^ here is a great frursuiter i found who has some good eye videos with resin eyes: [link]
