Description Long time ago, I wrote the story "One bullet", a sequel story of "Two Legends, two brothers". This picture is from chapter 7. To give you a little explanation for the ones who doesn't know the story and the meaning of this picture:
In "Two Legends two brothers" Rango guides a water trek to another town, but they are attacked by Bill and his gang. Rango managed that the water trek can escape but one of Bill's men shoots him a bullet into his belly. Rango can flee but he is too injured to reach the town. Jake finds him and after a night he brings him back to town before the chameleon dies and Rango survives.
The next story "One bullet" starts with Rango's worried thoughts abut Jake, because he didn't see him a while after he had brought him to town. On the same day, a business man comes to town and askes him for help because of a building project in the forest , near Yosemite Park, some people threath him to hold Rattlesnake Jake to kill him. Rango takes the job and followed him to the National Park where a big dam is builded. Later Jake appears on the dam while the business man wanted to make an inspection. Rango and Jake meet and Rango appealed to stop. After a confrontation Rango slips and hits Jake with a bullet. Jake falls down the dam. The wooden dam breaks and Jake disappears into the floods of water. Rango decides to seach for him, despite he is afraid to find a corpse. He rides down the river until he finds a blood trail...

7. Broken trust

A spark of hope rose in Rango.
Quickly he climbed back onto his Roadrunner and followed the water-wet track that led into a sparse pine forest. As soon as he reached the forest, he stopped his roadrunner.
"Jake?" He asked quietly, somehow he was afraid of calling Jake's name, maybe he was wrong, or maybe, in the worst case, he would only find a corpse.
Rango shook his head and started calling again.
"Jake ?! Are you here?"
But nobody answered. Everything remained silent. Only the soft rustling of the wind blew through the treetops. And some birds and crickets, which tuned their twilight concert.
"Jake, where are you?" Rango whispered more to himself.
Again, this terrible sense of guilt came up to him. He spurred his chicken again and rode slowly through the dark, barren forest.
Rango paused. Not far from him, it had rustled in the tall grass.
"Jake?" Rango asked uncertainly.
Hesitantly he steered the roadrunner in the direction from which he suspected the noise.
"Jake?"
Again no answer. He could hardly see anything in the dim light. Reluctantly, he dismounted and stepped closer to the grass. Carefully, he pushed it aside.
Another rustling. But this time from a completely different direction.
Rango felt his rising fear.
"Jake? Is that you?"
Another rustling. Rango was getting scary. If it was Jake, why didn't he answer? Or was it someone else?
"Jake, I just want to talk to you. That means, if you still have the capacity. "
But around Rango was just silence. Without a word he reached for his revolver and threw it on the ground next to him.
"Do you see? I'm unarmed. "
Suddenly there were shots next to him. Rango jumped to the side and fell on the stony ground.
"I'm not!" He heard a familiar, angry voice.
Shortly after, Jake appeared behind a group of trees. Still a bit startled, Rango looked up at him. He had never seen Jake so threateningly.
"What do you want, Sheriff ?!", the rattler snapped at him. "To savor your victory?"
"No no no. I don't. It's just ... I was afraid you would be dead. "
"Oh?! Do you want to catch it up on now?"
Jake thrust his head forward and stopped right in front of Rango. Rango thought he would burn every moment of Jake's eyes in the fury of anger. Startled, the lizard pressed itself to the ground.
He saw Jake trembling, but he didn't want to show it. The big rattlesnake seemed to have trouble not losing control.
"Jake! I ... I didn't want to shoot! "Rango declared panicky." Honestly not! "
"Oh, really?", Jake snapped, "Like long ago?!"
Rango winced.
"It takes one bullet." [Flashback]
Guilty, Rango looked to the side. He could understand Jake's distrust very well.
"Anyway, you only needed one bullet," Jake said and turned away.
With shaking body, Rango straightened up again. "Jake, I didn't want that. I'm sorry!"
But Jake paid no attention to his apology. He had turned his back on him, staring furiously into the distance.
Rango stepped up to him carefully. When he stood next to the rattlesnake, Jake still did not look at him. Rango looked down at Jake. In the dim dim light he recognized the bullet wound. The bullet had hit the snake on his upper body above his revolver belt. Did it hurt any vital organ?
He heard Jake's breathing laboriously. Rango craned his neck to take a closer look at the wound, but Jake pushed him aside.
"Go away!" He shouted.
Rango looked at him stunned.
"But I can not leave you here."
"Get out!"
Jake turned away.
"But…"
"GET OUT! I won't tell you twice! "
Rango ran away startled. Once again he looked over at Jake. But Jake did not turn around. Heavy-heartedly, the chameleon stepped on his roadrunner and rode off slowly.
